Hey guys, I finally decided to let my Maz 8 go. It's been my main and favorite amp since I bought it knew in 2012... until I had my Z-Lux in November 2015. I had a few not so good amps these last years. A few very good ones also. And 3 great amps: Maz 8, Therapy and Z-Lux. I wish I could keep the 3 of them, but I live in an apartment in Paris and have no dedicated room for playing music. And it appeared more and more clearly that I play the Z-Lux 95% of the time, even if I still love the way the Maz 8 sounds. So I pulled the trigger. Anyway, the Maz 8 will stay as the amp which made me discover a whole new highest quality, no fancy amp world and a really fine and respectful community of fans around here. So, thank you Dr Z and team and thank you members of this nice forum. PS: Could sounds like a good bye but it's not! I do keep my Z-Lux and my membership here!

Yes, the MAZ 8 is a fine amp, but like you, I can't keep them all. It is missed, but not forgotten. ME

As I said, my message could appear as a good bye... but it's not a selling add neither! ;-) My amp is already sold, no misunderstanding!

It's always hard to let a good amp go. I'm like you in that I've had two or three amps at one time before but always go back to 1 in the end. I still miss my Ghia and Monza.....but the Therapy has been good.

Three amps are a bit of a luxury for my personal situation. I know some would consider that a beginning, while some may think it excessive. For probably over 30 years I owned one amp. Then I bought my Maz 18. That did it. Bought a RT66, then a Ghia. Sold the RT66 and have the Antidote. Don't get me started on what I would like to add to the collection. But alas I think I'm at the point; if one comes in, one's gotta go. The Antidote would be the logical choice, but I love its tone and versatility. So I think I'm staying put, although the Z-Lux tempts me.

Three is definitely too much for my needs, my place... and my wife! ;-) One is the reasonable way, but I can handle two, as I have done until now. But then the two would have to be very different... and in the same time equally "desirable" to me. These last 14 months, it has been Z-Lux all the way, despite the so call honey moon being over for a while I guess. So I came to the painful but still logical decision. Now, may be one combo + one head (using the combo speaker) could be a fine compromise... Arggh it's already staring again, damned!

Easyrom, we've been through a couple of purchases together and it's got to be tough deciding which one to sell. I'm SO GRATEFUL that I have the room and no close neighbors (well, 150 feet or so) so I'm spoiled. Just don't stray too far from your Z brothers, sir...I for one have always enjoyed your input so don't let us down!

I know how you feel , I had a MAZ18 Reverb head and 1x12 Z-cab , which I sold to purchase a Maz 8.....which I sold to fund the purchase of a new Maz 18NR Studio Combo. Would have liked to have kept the 8 , but finances wouldn't allow it ( not to mention the wife.....)

Easyrom, look at the positive side. The person you sold it to now has one of the best amps in the world. You've spread a little Dr.Z joy around Paris. That's a good thing.

I'll be around, for sure, and I'll try to face tentation! As I said, this forum and its members tend to look like Dr Z itself: all about passion and humility. I'm talking about the brand, but it seems obvious that the man behind it instills this course of action.

So I did appreciate to spend time with two amps (Maz 8 and Therapy and after that Maz 8 and Z-Lux) in order to have the time to hear and feel, in the long run, what I really prefer.

There's not so many Z amps in France, but the futur owner of my Maz 8 (which is still at home, transaction pending) has a Maz 18 for a while. No need to convince him: he knew! But I'm sure he'll be happy to let his Maz 18 at home when so many watts are not needed. And he'll discover the magic which happens between the Maz 8 and the Scumback Scumnico (great speaker by the way).

Just wondering. How quiet can the amp be? I have the maz 18 but it's still too loud for regular gigs. I really only need to mic it.

I had the same problem with my MAZ 18 unless I used an attenuator (which as I've said before, I consider a last resort) so I switched to a MAZ 8. It sounds like you are in the same boat. The Master Volume has a broad range without killing your dynamics. I can't imagine any gig where it couldn't get low enough.

Just wondering. How quiet can the amp be? I have the maz 18 but it's still too loud for regular gigs. I really only need to mic it. I play my Maz 8 every day in my living room. It can sound great at a volume low enough to listen to the TV in the background. That's using a Brake Lite. Lately I've been really into Triode mode : Vol @ 3:00, M.Vol @ 12:00, B.L. @ 2, Tone Stack, Reverb & Cut - various settings depending on what I'm trying to play. This set up is pretty loud for the house, but not so loud that the neighbors would complain. The amp sounds great... like she's running on all 8 cylinders. Definitely a sweet spot. That's one of the great things about the Maz 8. With a Brake Lite, you can let both the pre amp and output tubes stretch their legs without rattling the windows. BTW... Welcome to the forum idma12.

Yes indeed, volume + master + Brake Lite give tons of shades. And the Triode mode is great also, and really quieter than the Pentode mode.

Hi guys,
I need your help, please!
As I told you here, I sold my Maz 8 to a French guitarist living in Toulouse (France). He has a Maz 18 for a few years, so he knows. ;-)
The amp should have been shaked a little bit on the road, cause when he first turned it on, the fuse blowed.
Since then, he tried a few fuses (3/4 AMP as said on the amp – early Maz 8), but they're fast blow so they just blowed one after another. While trying to help him facing this issue (slow blow fuses appear to be difficult to find in France), I saw on the manual (Dr Z website) that the Maz 8 now has a 1 AMP or 1.5 AMP (both information in the manual actually) SLO BLO 250V fuse.
So we're a little bit lost here! What should he get? 3/4 AMP? 1 AMP? 1.5 AMP?
He's a little bit anxious about that (I would too) and even thought at first that may be I sold a bad shape amp (which I didn't, of course. That amp has worked just great since its first day and still until it shipped!)
If it can help you helping us, the serial is W 32123...
Thank you guys!

Easyrom, I am taking an educated guess that you may have damaged the rectifier in transit. That is the first logical reason that a fuse would blow, the second is the power tubes, the third is a component has come loose, but that is remote. Not sure on the fuse sizes, mine is a 250V 1A
