First of all what's the effects loop like? When I owned the maz18nr and maz38sr I didn't like using the effects loop. If I remember rightly it changed the sound too much. Secondly from guys who have played/owned both is there more gain than the z lux? I guess you can do as its lower power and with the level control you can get lots more gain? Thirdly, I know all dr z are touch responsive but does the cure with its less fussy layout make it more touch responsive than the z lux? More character? And last question has anyone gigged one? The size of the cab does worry me but I'm sure that the cab is of the best wuality to resonate and sound bigger than it actually is? Cuts through nicely. Ditch the dirt pedals?

Try a buffer in your FX loop, with a short patch cable right after the MAZs send. Makes a dramatic difference.

I haven't had time to do a proper a/b of Cure and Z-Lux, but my impression is the Cure has more gain in the front end than the Z-Lux. But stay tuned on that. Not sure what you mean by "less fussy"? Absence of reverb and tremolo in the Cure? My initial impression is that Cure and Z-Lux are similar in touch sensitivity. (Fwiw, a Z Wreck is more touch sensitive than either of these 6V6 platforms.) I used the Cure at a gig the day after I received it. Cuts through very nicely. It does not have quite the thump a Z-Lux has, but that's not a big concern for me when performing. I actually like to keep my contribution to the frequency zone that the bass and kick are playing in relatively minimal, so I usually have the bass on the Z-Lux dialed down. You can always plug in an extension cab to complement the Z 12 speaker, or you can disconnect the combo speaker and plug into a larger cab. I did use my pedalboard. It may be possible to just use the amp for OD, but I'll need more experience with it before venturing out without the pedals. Also, I like a lot of tonal options for my dirt and I play slide on some songs. So I'll probably always have some drive pedal with me. I haven't tried the effects loop. Markus offers good advice in his post.

thanks for the report!
The Doc said somewhere due to rectifier being different to the lux the Cure is more "Musical" Would this mean more touch responsive?
So the effects loop might be like the maz? If i put a reverb pedal in the loop as an always on pedal that will act like a buffer? is that correct?
Does the cure sound thin then in comparison?
I guess with the level control you can get the sweet spot at any level with the cure thats very tempting!

The Cure is tube rectified which gives an awesome sag and bloom to the notes. The Z Lux is solid state, so it's more stiff and immediate... The Cure will also have more sag and bloom than a Maz because of the 6V6's.
