I've posted in other threads how I keep coming back to KoT. Ran two or three others in its slot on the board this past week, had some fun, and then put it back on. I've got it after a compressor and another OD set for high gain. I can use the compressor to hit the first OD with a hotter signal or I can use the KoT yellow side as a post-OD boost. This is in addition to being able to run yellow, red or yellow --> red. (Yes, I have put everything but the compressor on at once. ) Lately I've been running my drives BEFORE the compressor and love it!!!!! Saw it on That Pedal Show and tried it. My ODs came alive! It's like it accentuates the differences between them a bit more and makes them feel more responsive.

I'll probably give it a shot, but I use my comp mostly to even out slide. I suppose it would work on either side of the OD, albeit probably with different settings.

The general idea with that setup is the compressor prevents large volume jumps when you engage 1 or more drives. Volume stays pretty consistent, but gets more saturated. On a personal note, I've tried more compressors than I care to recount. I've never been able to make it work for me - before OD, after, beginning of chain, end of chain, etc. I finally realized the best spot for me to put a compressor was on someone ELSE's board!

You can also do this with an EQ at the end of the signal chain. I do this for volume sensitive gigs. Limits the tweaking you need to do to the other drive pedals on your board, fuzz especially.

If I recall the POT is made outside his shop. There has been a long time problem with people buying them just to flip them for a profit. The list drastically cuts down on this. I got my POT within minutes of him posting them available on his site. I had one of the original KOT's in the small box. It was great, I can't justify buying a KOT when the POT does what I need it to. What would solve the "problem" of people flipping them online is making enough of them to satisfy demand. They'd save on managing the waitlist, too. But it's all about maintaining the aura of mystery, or something. The KoT is really a pretty average OD pedal when you actually a/b it with others of similar design. I should know--I've owned three of them. Wow I thought it was just me. I had several and after a while just was not that impressed and ended up selling them.

Well it just shows how subjective the whole issue is; I bought my KOT a few years ago after about a year on the list. I've used it on every gig since, and it remains the best drive pedal I have found for my Strat through the Maz. I keep trying others, and actually the Z-Drive comes close, but unfortunately I'm quite colour-blind, and the red/green LED is just confusing to me, I can hardly see the difference! I kept the pedal though, it does sound good.
The KOT is great, I've had mine worked on a couple of times when one of the switches needed replacing, and I remember a pot and a couple of other components were changed too. I once put my name on the list for a second one as a spare, but when the time came I didn't have the cash, so had to pass. Mine has the high gain mod on the red side; it's not really high gain, but that's what it's called.
I do prefer to use my OCD with humbucker guitars though.

That's interesting that you prefer the OCD with your humbuckers. I wonder if my reaction will be the same? I absolutely love my Tele and my Les Paul through my OCD. The Strat, not so much. I kind of thought that I might prefer the KoT with all of my guitars. I've got about another year before I find out but I'm looking forward to trying them out side by side and decide for myself!

I am on the list but my name won't be called for quite some time. I am hopeful and cautious bout how the KoT will work for me. Right now I'm using a PoT and I use both the boost mode and the OD mode quite a bit. The Distortion mode I have tried a couple times, but it is not what I want. I'm thinking it will be nice to be able to have both the boost and OD modes without having to bend down and flip a flippin' switch on the pedal!

Re-reading this thread made me wonder, so I went back and looked - I got on the list in October 2011, and got the call in September 2012. KoT has been practically hard-mounted to my board since. It does what I need it to do, so I've not even looked for another dirt pedal since.

Thanks guys! I'll definitely post my thoughts and reactions. Seems like so many guys like it that I'll have a hard time thinking I won't.

I got on the list Dec 2015 and received the pedal last month....so the wait is about a year and a half (unless they do something to ramp up production). Great pedal IMO.

I recently purchased a sunlion fuzz from him took about 2-3 weeks to get it. It's the best sounding fuzz I have ever owned and I have had many plus it cleans up beautifully.

I just signed onto the list last week so it'll be light years before I get mine. I'm going from a 3 channel amp to the dr.z so it's a nice compromise. Although, time will tell if pedals begin to fall in favor of a direct tone into the Z.

I keep using my ts9 modded by me with keeley parts. Sometimes use h&k tube factor, or fuzz out with the velvet fuzz!! I have had tons and those are the only od pedals that stay. Half the time i just drive my amp hard and volume the cleans!!

Finally! I finally got the chance to play it! Took me forever because I moved and then got an infection on my finger (don't worry, no pic of that!) which hurt pretty bad. So - finger is better. I'm moved in. Rig is set up. Here we go! It's every bit as good as everyone says it is. I've been playing the Tim for almost two years now and have really enjoyed it. It actually ended my search for an OD w/Boost pedal for a while. But when I A/B'd the Tim and the KOT, it was easy to hear the difference IMO. There are three major differences between them that are major factors for me. First is that the Boost side is much more versatile on the KOT than on the Tim. It didn't quite ever do what I wanted it to and so I rarely used it. I ended up using a separate pedal as a solo boost which made me think I'd be better off with the Timmy, but whatever. Second, the Boost side of the Tim can't be used unless the pedal is already engaged in OD. The KOT is two independent pedals in one which makes the Boost channel a solo boost channel or just a simple clean boost. Third, it just sounds that much better. Again, nothing wrong with the Tim. It sounds great and beat out a ton of other pedals for its two-year stint on my board. But the KOT, especially the OD side, is just amazing. Can get dirty but still have clarity and it really does sound like the amp. In summary, I'm a happy camper. It was a long wait but since the wait is over, it's all good now. The two pics below are my rig and the settings I ended up with on the KOT. I cranked the drive on each side but I'm the kind of player who uses the guitar volume knob a lot. I only tried the KOT with the P90 Kauer in the photo so it will still need to be tested with my Tele and my Heritage 535. I've got a feeling that it'll be amazing with all three.

It's been my main - and sometimes my only - dirt pedal for a long time. It really does sound like my amp, only louder. You have me thinking about a KOT again. I was on the list once and when they notified me that I was up I declined because I had the Tim by then. Time to consider it again.

Every time i buy expensive pedals that are the grail tone I always end up selling them. I like my tones from the amp and fingers. But i do have more pedals than i need. And some days they sound great some days i could chuck them in the trash. Im old school tone wise and not one of the recodings from my old school heros have a KOT. But i know how it is to keep trying the lot!!

But then I saw this demo and I think I have changed my mind. I prefer simple, so I thought about picking this one up but then I wondered if the EQ functions the same as my Timmy/Tim. Where's the Beano for the G.A.S.

I tried for a long time to make my rig work for the last band I was in without using dirt boxes. Just couldn't do it for the sound we were going for. So now I've got the dirt boxes that I really like and will use them if need be. I like having options on the board and only using what the song and music calls for. Just my approach.

Finally had a chance to plug in the 535 today and crank the volume. Blew me away. I thought the KOT sounded amazing with a bridge P90 but the humbuckers were something else! So rich and full, just a huge sound that was exactly everything I'd hoped it would be, and then some. So responsive to dynamics and volume too! I can totally see why people leave it on their board for years.

Is there a way to check where on the lust you are? I know I'm on there, guessing I got on it a year ago, so another year to wait I guess. I'll buy it for sure. If I don't love it, I'll sell it and pocket the profit.

Hard to believe it’s been almost a year on the list for me. Should be around Christmas time when my name comes up. Looking forward to rearranging the board. Toughest decision will be what color (black, white, or purple).

My KOT arrives tomorrow (before 8pm) according to USPS. Gonna be a long day of waiting. Ughhh. Just shy of 23 months for me. Got on the list Aug 1, 2016. I trust it will be so worth the wait though.
