Hello all,
Recently moved states and had to move my gear in the process. All the amp works fine, except the Z.
I removed the power tubes for the drive. When I put the power tube in I heard a sound in the speaker (power cord wasn't even plugged into the amp). Then fired the amp up. Light turned on fine, turned standby off and there was no sound. So I powered down and removed all the tubes and reseated them. Again, same thing happened when putting in the first power tube. Fired the amp up, turned standby off, some muffled sounds and then the light went out.
I removed the power tubes and shook them lightly and can hear some rattling in one. Also pulled the fuse and it was blown. Any ideas/help?
Thanks all.

gio,
That is strange. Most likely a bad power tube or rectifier tube went out, but it could just be the bulb.
If it were me I would get a new standard rectifier and a pair of power tubes. Also get a pack of the correct fuses and two new light bulbs #47 at radio shack.
Change the fuse and change the light bulb first. If things blow up, then change the power tubes and the fuse if it snaps.
If that doesn't work then change the rectifier. If that doesn't work you can roll the pre amp tubes.
How old is the amp? On both of my Z amps I had a similar situation. I'm sure its a real simple issue like a bulb and a fuse.
Let us know how it turns out.

I'm not sure how old the amp is. I bought it used off someone on Reverb a year ago. So I'm not sure how long the tubes have been in there.
I'm going to order a fresh set of tubes for it and do as you (and folks over on The Gear Page suggested) and we will go from there. Thanks for your help!

Thanks everyone who chimed in. Picked up some new fuses and went ahead and did the troubleshooting guide on the website. No issues whatsoever. Maybe the fuse just got jostled through the drive? No idea. But the Z28 is up and running again.
Thanks again!

You might be getting set up If I recall correctly on one or more occasions I had a fuse pop, replaced it to have it work for a couple of days or hours and then the rectifier went out. The fuse popping was a sign of the rectifier failing temporarily. I hope all is solved. I would be interested to verify that it holds without issue.

I bought a couple of fuses with the anticipation that this may be the case. Fingers crossed at the moment. I'm just glad it isn't something more major like a transformer.
