If he releases a head I'm definitely buying one. And I won't mind paying extra for it. I just prefer heads over combos personally and all my Zs to date are heads. I definitely want one of these Count me in on a head. I did the combo thing for a few years and my first four Z amps were combos. I'm back to heads now. Speaker cabinets have a way of multiplying like rabbits...

With the external speaker jack, can you run another cab along with the Z 12" speaker in the combo? If so, what ohm speaker for the external cab? kc The external and the internal are wired in parallel for an 8 ohm load. Regardless of if you are using two speakers or one, they need to be 8 Ohm.

To all who are clamoring for a head, I say this: no disrespect, but with an external jack, and an amp coming in at 33 pounds(as many have mentioned, lighter than a bunch of our heads), throw this on top of an extension and use one or both. ...anyone remember the Mesa halfback cabs? Open back on top, closed back on the bottom? There you go...

I know it may look funny cosmetically to some but it will work. Plus you still have the option of using it as a solo grab and go.

I'd like a head version! Bet it would sound huge through a 2x12.

Doc, would you consider doing a head version even if you had to sell for a few hunded $ more? Im sure theres a lot of us who wouldnt mind paying a little more to have the head. I'm one to " Never say never " . If there is a demand for a head version I will as a good businessman evaluate that option.
But understand this product in my conception, was for a nice light, compact, great sounding , well built , very affordable , PACKAGE. Something that will attract NEW young customers to my product line. Make it so they have a FINISHED product, not one were they have to determine what speaker, what cab, for customers who may not have a lot of experience with the costly speaker swap disease. Offer a product that is complete. A gateway drug if you will.
And after it was built , using the TRIAD Output transformer, the overall Level control, resonant lite Studio cab, perfectly matched Z 12 speaker, I said man this really sounds good, my long time users will get a kick out of this as well as first time users.

Sounds like a fantastic rig. As always we appreciate you giving us the scoop on it Doc.

You still have a 1:1 amp to speaker ratio there, though, Lee...

If it's the same size chassis as a maz or therapy I suppose us head guys could always swap.it out of a combo cab and install it in a head cab. But I'd still prefer a sweet looking stock blonde head straight from the doctors office.

I feel this is a smart move-lower price for a quality amp, bring the younger people in-my son is 30 and I am planning on buying him one to replace his beat up drri in the new year.Let him see what american made quality is,and show it to his friends,1300 is a price they can afford.

But I'd still prefer a sweet looking stock blonde head straight from the doctors office. You could certainly do that, but just remember that it would be upside down. With that said, I have an upside down Therapy in a 1x12 combo right now that I've been playing. It's about to go back into a head box, though. One with a Harvey faceplate to be exact.

how bout a head version doc? any plans on the horizon? No plans for a head version. Just one color combination ultra lite 1x12 combo loaded with a Z 12. I did this to streamline production costs as well as inventory costs. Couldn't do it at an introductory price of $1299.00 unless I made every effort to lower my in house inventory and labor costs. Something Leo Fender would have done. Z Fkn A!!! Ban me if you want to..... I sayd what I sayd, and I MEANT it.

As others have already said I think this is marketing genius, an amp really close to a Z-lux at that price point WILL become the new standard. I hope the good Doctor is ready for the demand. Might start to get crowded around here too!

Just put my down payment also. Want to compare it with my Z Lux. I play out with it alot and never use the 40 watt setting and also don't use tremolo at all but I need my verb. Will have to find a good reverb to put through the effects loop and I might have my new go to amp.
