I've been thinking of a Ghia as my first boutique amp. However I only play at home and at my church. So I can never really turn of that loud. With my Vox AC4 I can just get to the point of power tube breakup when using a boost pedal and sticking the amp in a closet. I prefer power tube breakup vs a pedal into a clean amp. Since the Ghia is too loud to naturally breakup in my settings would the Mini be a good fit?
I mostly play a Tele, use reverb and delay pedals and boost or OD pedals as needed. Thanks for the insight.

Here's some clips for you that may help you with your decision.

I love my mini - both for home use and playing out. It's a lot louder than people expect, especially if you use an efficient speaker.
Another couple amps to look at would include the Maz 8 and even the Monza. The Maz will probably be the most versatile (and expensive) choice, and the Monza has a very effective master volume.

Thanks for the info! I have a fairly limited budget which is why I initially started looking at the Ghia and now the Mini. Both can be found in a head format for under $800 used.

Go with the Ghia. I had a Mini Z for a while and it was fun but not very flexible. I own a version one Mazerati and had a Ghia here for a while. I'll never play another amp.

I like simple designs, but I'm wondering if the Mini is too simple. A tone control would be nice.

After a few days with my Mini head 2 things struck me (besides liking the overall tone a lot). Playing through a 70 watt Celestion, it cleans up nicer than I thought it would. It's also pretty loud for a low power amp. Regarding no tone control on the amp. I'm not sure a single passive tone control (roll off highs) would really make a difference to me as I can do that on my guitars. If I decide at some point I want some serious control over bass/mids/highs, an active EQ pedal would be the way to go, imho. At the moment, I'm fine with it as is.

Always tempting at the price you see them at. Food for thought...
