Hi I picked up a 1x10 Z28 last year, and I love it. I just can't get it cooking enough because it's a loud little thing! Currently running it with a Brake Lite, but just wondered if anyone knew of a master volume mod for this amp? Would be good to have the variation on a MV instead of the Brake Lite.

Attenuation is your friend!!! I run all of my amps with Weber Mass attenuators. Love 'em for around the house noodling...

Welcome to the forum! You have a great amp for sure. I uses a BrakeLite with mine unless I have a gig where I can let "unleash" itself! One thing that may help is using a less efficient speaker. Though I prefer 12's over 10's, I do have different rated speakers to use in different cabs depending on the venue or room. Maybe see what others recommend re a less efficient but great sounding speaker to help you out here!

First, welcome aboard! Second, congrats on having a Z-28. Great amp Z-28 as-is will get ya lotsa great sounds and volume While I have been using my Z-28 for the better part of the past 10 years - with a 112 and/or 210 Z speaker cabinet, I have not felt the need to put any restraints in place .... even with my playing capabilities (or lack thereof) That said, attenuation would be my preferred method as opposed to trying a MV mod .... pretty sure if Doc thought it was gonna be a good thing he woulda put it in place a long time ago cheers always, Joel

Well, I ended up scoring a 35w Eminence Legend Alnico 10" on eBay for a good price. Stuck it in the Z28 and ran it up at rehearsal. First impressions are very good - the ability to crank the volume from 1/4 to 1/2 makes the world of difference to the tone. Going to be running this in mono with a Fender 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb. Can't wait for the next gig where I can fire them both up together! Thanks for your help, guys!

It was the Eminence Red Fang, (50w, 102db). The difference between that and the Eminence Legend I put in (35w, 97db) is enormous. I'm keeping the Red Fang for bigger gigs, should I need it, but I can't see me changing it out again in the near future. Multiple lower-output amps are definitely the way forward for me!
