I've read that this amp is comparable to a Fender Princeton. I'm thinking it's more like a Deluxe? How does the clean headroom compare to those amps?
I had a Maz 18 before. I'm assuming that the Z-28 will have a little more clean volume?

The Z-28 is pretty stout. When I got my Z-28, I had a DRRI as well; I'm pretty sure I compared 'em and the 28 could go louder. I think its headroom is a little higher than the DRRI's, too (stays clean longer). A little more clean volume than the MAZ, too, but probably at least because many of us keep our "pre" MAZ volume higher and "post" volume lower.

I used the same cabinets to compare. I play in a 6 piece band with a loud drummer. Even at outdoor gigs I still need the brake lite and never run out of headroom. PLUS my speakers are I think 98db......what I'm getting at is that it's LOUD!!!

The tone controls on the Z-28 differ from those on the MAZ. On the Z-28 the tone controls add gain when set above noon (o'clock). As a result, the headroom available reflects all knob settings, not just the volume control. The EF86 preamp design provides more headroom as well, I think.

Z28 is loud! I get tons of clean headroom and I hardly ever put the volume past about 9 oclock at a gig. At home it's at about 7 or 8 at most

More headroom than I need to be honest. I've only opened it up once outdoors and then it was the sixties all over again. Beautiful amp.

I usually have my volume at around 11-12 and the bass and treble any where from 9-12. I usually put 1-2 clicks on the brake lite. My Z-28 is in a 1x10 setup with a celestion gold and I use a telecaster with lollar special T's. This gives me clean tones right at the edge of break-up. a touch of reverb from my flint and i'm in tone heaven!

is it just me and my ears but I find that the z 28 changes tonally somewhat when using a brake lite. I tried using it but it thins it out somewhat to my ears, when not using a brake lite it sounds thicker and fuller, of course I cant really get past the dial on 9 in volume with out a brake lite

It can also be the fact that you're moving less air with more clicks.
