What is that glorious sound, you ask? Well, that's my new DB4! And yes - it's plenty loud. You should have been hearing it for the last half hour. No matter where you are! What I'm most surprised about is how much headroom this amp has - lots of space for clean tones in here - especially with lower output pickups (I'm looking at you Strats & Teles!). It is SO much different than my Ray. And different in a good way. You should hear the two of them together running in stereo - One difference I have a question about - the preamp is much more sensitive to input signals - I mean my effects (particularly modulation) are much more pronounced in the DB4 than they are in the Ray. Is that due to the difference in the preamp tubes or a matter of voicings (the DB4 being much more mid focused) or something else entirely. Enquiring minds want to know! Why am I posting and not playing? Giving my ears a break!

That is ONE BADASS rig, Greg! Congrats, Brother! I would have to guess it's the "voicing" (preamp) that accounts for the differences in sensitivity.....(and that guess is worth exactly what you just paid for it)... Waaaay Cool amp!!! DIG!!!

Pentodes, in general, are more efficient than triodes. That probably accounts for the difference in effects you're hearing.

Very nice. Looking forward to a full tone rundown. I have alot of interest in this amp. There is not many YouTube's out there. So any info passed along would be excellent In the mean time enjoy that sucker, and the ear massage.

I'm in the midst of down-sizing and the Doc keeps coming out with great new designs. It just isn't fair.

Lol...I haven't used it in a while but pulled it out last night to set up. I'm rejigging the Man Cave so stuff is being moved everywhere (hence the stacks of amps in the background). I find that the Wreck cab tightens up the amp......which I really like. Hoping to put a mic on it over the weekend to record a couple snippets.

I'll see what this weekend brings....

It's been about 6 months now with my DB4. Honeymoon definitely over. We've moved on to wedded bliss! Love this amp. So simple yet sonically complex. Still learning each other. Loves my Prince of Tone. Hates my Shiba drive. I find I am using many less pedals because the tone is so good. Pretty sure I could get by with just the amp, the PoT, Flint & ElCap. And although, even though I don't have one, I'm sure the Strymon Brigadier was built for me and could replace the ElCap. Always loved analog delays. And the Brig addresses all the shortcomings of my Aqua Puss (yes - I know it's not really analog). But I digress! We had a couple tube issues but counseling (thank you doc and forum!) has seen us through. I've got a feeling, like the Ray, that this one will be with me for the long haul. Thanks for the DB4, Doc!
