Check it out, we went and explored some tones you could get with this pedal through an average ol' Hot Rod Deluxe.

Well now, I am really interested in the second example. Using the red channel as mainly a rhythm channel and the green channel for single string soloing is the opposite of what I (and most players I believe) have tried to do. That may be why I have had trouble bonding with the red side. Thanks for helping me to think outside the box.

Can't take credit for the killer chops. That's Ray Flanagan doing he heavy lifting.

That may be why I have had trouble bonding with the red side. Thanks for helping me to think outside the box. I'm happy to have inspired you. when I use the pedal, I definitely prefer the Red side for rhythm. Something about the speed and compression on the attack makes it feel tighter. Then the green channel inherently has more mids and a softer touch that I like for legato, single note playing. It's almost like switching between solid state and tube rectification. I think a lot of players, especially those with an ear for "vintage tones," have a hard time getting on with the red channel and immediately equate "higher gain" with a "lead boost." But the higher gain and compression of the red side is a little too modern for some tastes for lead playing. I was one of them, until I really delved into coaxing the best sounds I could out of the pedal. Which is why in these cases, I recommend backing the gain back on the red channel and upping the gain on the green, because the green will get smoother and more liquid at higher gain settings, making for a very rewarding experience. I remember when we did the take with Tele starting with the Red channel then Green, that is when Ray was really sold on the pedal. He got excited and said "I just want to crush AC/DC riffs!!"

I use both sides for rhythm tones and stack them with my Klone to get a lead tone, usually. But if I was to only use the Z-Drive, green would be my lead tone side as well!

Completely opposite approach as to what I was doing. I loved the Germanium side so much at light gain settings, though.
