Solid state rectifier in a version 2 Mazerati? Thanks in advance for your experience and replies!

The 5AR4 rectifier came stock with the Mazerati V2. Are you asking if you can use the solid state rectifier? If so, I suppose it would be fine. The amp is already pretty stiff feeling with the 5AR4. What are you trying to change with the Ss?

I've killed a sovtek and a jj. Don't want to spend for NOS and would like the reiability, and hopefully, increase headroom and less wear on transformer. Opinion?

Could it be a based set of output tubes that are causing this? Have you swapped them to see?

Thanks for the suggestion, but it's working fine with a JJ now. The ones I fried happened over 12 plus years with many mismatched loads. I'm just curious about the tone difference, headroom, reliability and the copper caps' affect on the circuit.

ordered a Sovtek. Still interested in the Weber copper cap, but most of the users I read about only use it as a backup. They are probably using NOS as primary. I'll continue to try and find a reasonably priced NOS. They may be close to extinction. I'm still curious about the response of the copper cap and its effect on the circuit. Appreciate any info and experiences.

I tried 5V4 years ago. If I remember correctly, softened the response and lost volume and clean headroom. I'm stoked about the Sovtek, I'll receive next week. That's what the Doc put new in my Mazerati. After all the tube rolling I've done with this amp, I always return to how it was designed. V1 is a Mullard 12ax7 and V2 is a RCA blk plate 5751. JJ el84 #6 are the only power amp tubes I've used. I may try a softer 4 or 5 in the next ones. Originally V1 was a JJ and V2 a JAN 5751.I like NOS in the preamp tubes. I bet I'd like NOS power tubes and rectifiers too, but, I'm frugal to a fault. Still love to chase tone. Maybe , if I have a good year I'll spring for more NOS or ANOS. Best amp I've ever owned.
