Hi all. A Mazerati V2 was delivered today. I installed the tubes and the volume was very low. I tried all new tubes, same thing. There were no noises, and the tone seemed correct, just very low volume. After removing and replacing tubes several times I checked inside the chassis, everything inside seems fine. Nothing burned, no broken leads, voltages seem fine, cathode resistor values are correct, chopstick poking around did nothing... Finally, after several power-ups it came to life. I took a picture of the v2 socket as pin 5 looks bad. It looks rough and doesn't seem to have the inside material like the others. I swapped tubes and put it back in the chassis and not much sound again. I pushed down on v2 and it came to life. One time after it came to life, it faded away again. I'm thinking that the culprit is pin 5 of v2. Given how bad pin 5 looks, I'm wondering if that socket needs to be replaced. I appreciate any thoughts. Thanks...

Yep, pin 5 can't be making a very good connection . That is the heater or filament connection so half of your Phase Inverter isn't conducting. A socket replacement is in order. Guys this is the result of what the internet calls " Tube Rolling" that is continuous swapping of pre-amps , stretched out socket pins.
If you can solder , take a nice picture with your cell phone of the socket wire connections to use as a guide, and install a new socket. Any good tech can also do that for you at reasonable charge, and if you can't do that send the amp in and we can do that and check the older used amp over.

Thank you, Dr, for your quick reply and comments. I will think about those options...

Sending back to Z is a great value. They go thru the amp and make sure everything is just right. It's like sending your high performance car in for a really good tune up.

What is the protocol for sending it to Z? Would I fill out the Repair request form on the Z site?

Under the Support/Repairs at the Z site there is a "Submit a Request" form that you can fill out and send to Z. I've had a number of my Zs back for Doc and Don to "rehab" - a great service at a great price.

They might need to be checked and replaced anyway. Thanks...
