Hi all. First post. Love the Zs...and the Zzzs's
So I have a Maz 38 SR (w Reverb) 1x12 combo. I also have a Z best 2x12 cab. At the moment I'm disconnecting my combo speaker to use the cab, but I'd like to have the option to run all 3 speakers at once! I have read that this requires a Y cable (Dr. Z site pointed me to Pro Cables N Sound).
My question is...how do I know whether to select the "standard parallel" option or the "in series" option?
If my 8 ohm combo speaker and my 8 ohm cab is in parallel - I would connect to the 4 ohm jack in the back. But if my combo and cab are in series - I would connect to the 16 ohm jack in the back. (please correct me if I'm wrong)
So which cable do I buy so I dont plug into the wrong speaker out jack?!? I hope my question is clear.

Your 2 8ohm cabs with a parallel Y cable would go into you 4ohm out. If you went series would plug into the 16ohm out. You have it correct. Todd

Welcome to the forum, coletrain--I think pcns can help you out on this one. If I remember correctly, you can get either a series OR parallel Y-cable from PCNS. As long as both your speakers are 8-ohm and your amp has all three 4 - 8 - 16 ohm outputs, then you could go either route.

I bought both Todd a while back, just to test out.
Side note on the "Series" connection, make sure you have BOTH combo speaker, AND Cab, plugged in at all times.
If you unplug either, the circuit is Open, and you could Blow the amp. This won't happen with parallel.

ahhh thank you everyone! So I can buy either a parallel or series Y cable and plug into the 4 or 16 ohm jack, respectively. I didn't realize I had a choice. Thanks! Likely more questions to come in the future

Fwiw, I think most folks go parallel.
You could take a poll, I suppose, if you wanted to pursue the topic.
Welcome to Z Talk!

Parallel is nice because you can use the Y cable even if all three points aren't plugged in. It's a bit tighter sounding but not everyone can hear that difference. Series requires all three points to be connected or it will act like a hard short on you amp so you need to be careful. Plus side, your speakers don't see power at exactly the same time so it can give you a little thicker more 3d sound, like the Z wreck Cabs. The majority of the cables we sell are parallel. Hope this helps, Todd

Send Todd a note - he'll help! He's PCNS here on the Forum. I think he ordered one, I have a recent order from "Cole" on our build board. Says he is anxious to get the cable so he try it out with. Must be the same guy Todd

If I understand this correctly...with the series cable, anytime the amp is on, everything needs to be plugged in correctly. But with the parallel cable, I could, for example, turn on the amp with just the extension cab plugged in and it wouldn't short or anything.
I wonder if I would hear the difference with a series cable. Most likely going to order one tonight!

I don't think the average person is going to hear a huge difference between the two.

I agree with what Mike said, most people can't hear the difference

do you see any issues if there is a swamp thang or cannabis rex in the combo (8 ohm) and the stock speakers in the Z best cab (v30 and g12h30 I think)?
The swamp thang is rated at 150W and the cannabis at 50W, but as they're both 8 ohm, it's okay to connect either using the y cable, right?
