Aren't these what Doc is (was?) using in the Z-Wreck? If so, then yeah.. good tubes.

Yes, that is a recommended replacement for the Z-Wreck tubes. I have them in my Rx Jr. Not 'in your face' like JJs. Nice, even-keeled tube.

To me the 7189s just lose that sizzle in the top end. The Rx Jr can be a bright amp so that's likely why I like them there. If I were to guess I'd say the Maz 8 could benefit the most....and you only have to buy one to try it out. I think the difference in top end is subtle....but I think it's noticeable. I think part of the difference as well is likely a lower noise floor on the 7189s.

after my jj el84's burned up 90 seconds before hitting the stage at a high profile gig, I put these 7981 tubes in my Ghia.
Russian military tubes. Expensive, but they last a lot longer and more rugged. And Doc says the Ghia is much easier on power tubes than other el84 amps, so I figure they should last years and years.
I can't tell much of a difference, but they seem a little firmer in the bass, and don't seem to compress as much. And they take forever to heat up.

I had some reflectors in for a day...I don't know how these compare to them...I can tell the difference between them...
Military tubes last...but I felt ultimately I was giving up some of the upper end sweetness for longer lasting tube...there was a trade off for me...
