Wow, I'm pretty shocked! Anyone know why? I guess not such a great seller?

I think Doc said in a previous post it was due to low order numbers.

Correct. The Doc mentioned that the Ray had dropped to six new unit orders per year.

Many people don't realize how small the Z shop actually is. In order to release new amps they have to discontinue another product. As Tom mentioned, Doc said only six were sold last year. Hard to keep quality up and costs down if you are only building 6 of them in a year.

It's interesting--for awhile the Ray was the Z amp of choice for the country Tele guys because Brad, but I think that's a fairly limited demographic and it kind of got divided up among a number of more recent Z offerings, including the Wreck and now the DB4, which Doc said has already had a record number of pre-orders. I was looking at the Ray pretty seriously awhile back, but decided to pass due to the lack of a MV--too much amp for any stage I'm likely to play.

I enjoyed mine for many years before it fell victim to a gear turnover frenzy. Still some of the greatest clean tones of any amp I've owned.

I too have fallen victim to the Zlux. But my Sting Ray is just a different animal, and every time I plug.....I'm amazed how insanely great it is. Very pedal friendly. So, I'm not ready to gig my "Sting"Ray....so my newly ordered Blonde "Stang"Ray will be here tomorrow. Going to find a way to play em both live togethor Zlux+StangRay side by side. I truly love em both for different reasons. As a side note, Mike mentioned Steve Miller ordered 2 when he heard they were going by way of bye bye. So the love is there still and very real for the Ray. I don't care what amp is the flavor of the month. Greatness is timeless

Unquestionably, the BEST CLEAN tone of any amp EVER is, and will always be, found in the heart of the "RAY!"

It's comforting to know there are a bunch of Stangrays out there to pick up used. When you've got the ZWreck and DB4 to add to the mix I can see why sales are limited. There are a handful of Stangray users that enjoy the tones of the Ray when it's pushed to power tube break up playing rock music. Played thru a closed back cab with least 2x12s (greenbacks, G12-65's, blue dog or mixed) set the volume between 1:00 and 2:00, dime guitar's volume, humbuckers welcomed, add an overdrive pedal of choice and to quote Curt, "It's rockin like Dokken". Singing lead guitar tones that are gourgeously beautiful. Another one of Doc's wonderful creations!

Yeah - Drew nailed it. Such a great rock amp too - not just for the best clean tone ever! Always loved mine on top of a Z Best. My old Z Best is gone, but I've still got the Ray - and I'm pretty sure it will stay with me long enough to pass on to my heirs.

Very great amp which I wish I still had. Traded mine on the z-lux which I do not regret, but the ray was a magical amp.

Unquestionably, the BEST CLEAN tone of any amp EVER is, and will always be, found in the heart of the "RAY!" I have had many amps since my first Ray in 2006.....None of them have topped the clean tone the Ray produces! Sold my 1st Ray, got another one a few years ago....Traded that for a Z-Wreck and recent developments have brought me back to another Ray headed my way and I'm REALLY looking forward to getting it!
