Soon, just finishing the convertible back panels, so you can have open back closed back.

We tried one out last week. Eminence's new 15 inch Neodymium speaker. Great sound - unbelievably light! Doc is using the same cab as 4x10. We were able to lift it one handed waist high with absolutely no problem! I'm sure Doc would consider putting in a custom speaker.

Howdy,
Is there an AlNiCo speaker available in the 15-inch size? Seems to me like a 15 would compliment the Carmen Ghia nicely.

This is gonna be great. Many, many years ago as a stupid kid, I pulled the speakers out of a silverface Super Reverb and put in a 15" Altec that I had originally pulled from an old Acoustic Controls Corp. cab. It sounded glorious. Even with the huge impedance mismatch...

i grabbed a new off reverb.com for around $100. I have one in an Isolation Cabinet in my my studio that i like. I have been using a first generation Peavey Delta Blues with a 15 for many year. I bought the amp new when it first came out. I like the deep tones of the 15. I like the Z-Lux through the isolation cab. I am expecting it will sound good live too.
The real reason i'm building it is my Z-Best 2x12 is too big to fit under my bed cover. I hate having to haul a trailer to every gig. So, this will easily fit.

It's built and running . . .
OK, It's not the Z-Best 2x12. The Z-Best pushes a lot more air. That tone is awesome.
This fills a niche in my lineup. I needed a cabinet that would fit in my wife's Truckster . . . Honda Ridgeline with a bed cover. The Z-Best in the road case just don't fit! So, i built a smaller box. And, it's a beater box. It can get banged up. No tolex. Truck bed liner spray paint.
Tone wise . . . the manufacture recommends open back. So, it's an open back cab. It's on wheels. So, not as much bottom end without the coupling. But, still has a deep, rich tone that i was looking for. I'm pleased with the build.
It's not a cab by the good Doctor! But, i'm diggin it as a backup to the Z-Best!

You are right. That is ugly. But it looks solid and it reminds me of when I used to build stuff like that all of the time. Good for you.

I'm wondering why the Dr. Z 1x15 in the Backline cabinet mentioned here never happened. Seems like a great idea to me. Did the 15" not sound good in the Backline cabinet? Not enough demand? 1964 Fender Vibroverbs are awesome with the 15" speaker. Would like to hear my EZG-50 with one.

I bought a 1x15 Mather cab to match my red EZG and put an Emi Legend 1518 in it. Glorious rig—I feel a twinge of regret at having traded it, but it was just too much amp for the stages we play.

That's the speaker I'm looking at. Good to hear you liked it! Yea this amp with the large Backline cab is large and loud but it sounds so good I hate the idea of downsizing. It also sounds great at lower volumes plus I have the brake lite attenuator if needed.

For a number of years when I was younger, my rig was a ‘67 Vibrolux Reverb, but for larger venues I put it on top of a 15” extension cabinet. That cabinet added some real authority to that amp on the bandstand and much more punch.
I think a 15” cabinet would be a really good adjunct to any 1x12 or 2x10 combo.

I wouldn't use the Brakelite with it, though--not recommended for amps 50 watts and up. Get an AirBrake to be on the safe side.

Hey yea, good point on the Brake-lite not handling the 50 watts of the EZG. But I'm not running the amp very loud with it. In a situation where I'd be nearing the limits of the Brake-Lite I wouldn't even need it to begin with.
