I've done a good job up until now in resisting the urge to buy another amp but I feel my willpower starting to wane. I'm currently down to one Z amp a Therapy and have been for over a year but I'm really considering getting a Z-Lux. For all of you out there that have/had a Therapy and now have a Z-Lux (you know who you are ;-) what is the big difference between the 2 amps besides the reverb and tremolo? I swore my next Z would be another Maz 38 which I foolishly sold because I was playing the Therapy so much but maybe I should try something a little different. Will the Z-lux be too similiar to the Therapy?
TIA.

I have both and I find the Therapy to be a little raw and in your face without much effort compared to the Z-Lux!

Don't have a therapy and never played one but I am sure I would really dig it. However I do have a Z-lux and it really is a outstanding amp. I think there are some guys here on the forum that own both and I think they would be a great compliment to one another.

I've got them both and djcakadave pretty much nails it... The Z-Lux is more refined and "dignified" if you will, especially in the lows and mid-range. It's just a huge, big sounding sweetheart where the Therapy wants to get to rockin' pretty quickly! Not to say the Therapy doesn't clean up nicely, it's got beautiful cleans. But the Z-Lux with an overdrive pedal will cover more sonic territory than the Therapy will, especially with the reverb and tremolo (both world class).

I currently own the z-lux but i'm thinking about swapping it for a therapy as i don't ever use the reverb and tremolo anyway. Also the therapy just looks so appealing because of it's simplicity and i tend to love 6l6 amps.
Would you say the therapy has more or less headroom than the z-lux? I mostly just cranck the master volume, turn the volume up to where it stays clean and go from there.

I think the Therapy has less headroom than the Z-Lux, in that it gets dirty faster on the Volume control. But I can get a great loud clean(ish) tone from the Therapy too. The Therapy is more in the tweed camp than the Z-Lux. All that said, it would be a fun experiment to set them up side by side and compare to see which one gets the loudest clean tone. Offhand I'd have to vote Z-Lux...but a lot of that is going to depend on which speaker you run with the Therapy too.
They're both great and I don't think I'd give either one up...but if I had to choose I'd probably keep the Z-Lux. It doesn't get as raunchy as the Therapy but it's very versatile. I'm gigging it this morning in my church Praise Band. It can rock hard when you want it.

At what position on the volume knob would you say your therapy starts to get dirty, or your z-lux aswell for that matter?
With the z-lux my sound starts getting hairy at anything past 1/4th on the volume dial with the master volume maxed, that is when i run a 4x10 cab with the Eminence Z legend speakers. I suppose more efficient speakers would also make for louder cleans.

I suppose more efficient speakers would also make for louder cleans. I find myself going back and forth on my Lux. If I want it to be loud and clean, it's on 40 watts with the preamp volume at around 10. It can stay clean at that setting a lot longer than the Therapy. Sometimes I run the preamp at about 2-3pm. It gets a GREAT dirty tone there wide open, but also cleans up real nice when I roll my volume back. In either case, I set the Master for the room. I think the Z-Lux has far more clean headroom than the Therapy. If your diming the master volume, it's going to get dirty quicker, with power amp dirt.

The other thing about the therapy is it can take 6L6, KT77, EL34, and 6V6. You can really get a wide range of tone from this amp. I’ve run the stock 6L6, the KT77 and currently running EL34 and loved them all.

Just a personal preference (I've had a couple of each). IMHO:
Therapy: A VERY good amp
Z-Lux: An exceptionally GREAT amp
There's something about the way the Lux gets those power tubes cooking (esp 6V6's on half power with tone stack by-passed) that gives you that gorgeous BFDR tone with the girth of a BFSR...

I still have both of these amps and would have to concur that the Z-lux has more headroom and is more hi-fi sounding for lack of a better word and the Therapy is more raw like a boom box cranked and distorting.
I love them both.

I have both. I NEED both. They are different animals, both well thought-out and constructed with the best parts. Can't go wrong with either.

For what it's worth, I love my Z-Lux, but really regret selling my Therapy. The Therapy is just a really cool sounding amp...
