Are the MAZ 8's typically noisy?? Been getting some grief from Producers about the noise in my precious 8. If so, what can I do about it? I ususally don't use my Delay, ect when recording so I unplug and re-route around anything that may give unwanted noise/hum. Been using a Truetone power supply for a few months after my PP2 failed multiple times. The Reverb, while rediculously good and deep adds hum/noise, as does the Cut knob. Thanks.

I cant vouch for the 8's reverb...do own a couple 18's...I did a replacement on my reg cab and it quieted things down.
The main thing that helped I feel was tubes...v3/jan Phillips 12at7wc..v4/sovtek 12ax7wb...it will take some tinkering...and a few cuss words(optional)
the thing I always revert back to is the drri was no more quieter than the maz...but I sure do appreciate the tone a lot more

Single ended amps tend to have a higher noise floor than amps with 2 or 4 output tubes , as the multi-tube set-up has sort of a humbucking effect with the push-pull. I completely shielded the reverb tank , changed the reverb cables to ones with metal braid shielding , and like Digs changed the reverb tubes to NOS JAN 12AT7 and in my case a reissue Mullard 12AX7. I also changed out the driver tube from the 12AX7LPS to a Sovtek 12AX7B. For some reason , that also seemed to help reduce noise. FWIW , YMMV.

Yes, my 8 is somewhat noisy compared to my dead silent 18NR. However, any producer worth their salt should be able to completely remove the uniform hiss in a heartbeat.

For the price of these amps you shouldnt have to change anything. Compared to other boutique amps out there, Z's are a big time bargain. There are so many things that can cause hiss that aren't the amp.

I get a little noise from my 8, but I'm operating in a "tough" environment: MIM Squier Tele and dimmer switches in the room. Some noise is the Tele since moving around changes the level.
Once I start playing -- and this is with a Brake Lite on 3 -- the noise is not audible.
dergit makes a good point. Eric Ambel (roscoenyc here on Z Talk) has recorded and produced many albums using Z amps, and the sound is stellar. For example, check out the Surreal McCoys. I'm pretty sure the guitarist (Tim, a member here) used either his Z or one of Eric's for the recording.

I totally agree, I wouldnt play anything but a Z, I was just referring to an above post where it was stated how many tubes were changed, cables changed, tank shielded etc.. to make it noiseless, there's always going to be some hiss if any, I dont really have a problem with it in any of my 3 Zs I currently own.
