Hi everybody!
I'm considering the therapy for a purchase and attracted to the thick and low powered tweed tones but was wondering if the amp can get be dialed in for a more blackface top end? i like the power rating and the MV and the big bottles but concerned it's a denser & warmer sounding amp - which i like but would also like a nice top end, too.
am i way off considering the therapy? thanks in advance; off to work.

To my ears, I never found the Therapy terribly "thick" unless it was really cranked up. I think you can get blackface for sure, as long as it's more the Super/Twin blackface sound. There's something sort-of soft/squishy/comfortable about the low-powered blackfaces (Princeton & Deluxe) that I don't think the Therapy can do as well, since it's pushing more watts and using 6L6's.

Having grown up on a '67 BF Vibrolux Reverb (that I got for Christmas in that year and still have), I think the Therapy is very capable of performing in the 6L6 black face neighborhood, particularly a la VR/ProReverb/Super.

Therapy is not really a "chimey" amp. Think tweed-twin but better.

Waiting for someone to jump in with a Z-Lux recommendation...

The Therapy has a very sweet high end. To me, it does sound like the treble knob is centered on a higher frequency than the treble on, say, a Remedy. (I could be dead wrong on that from an electronics perspective.) As a result, it may take some "eyes shut, ears open" tweaking of the eq and volume, but I think you can get something that leans BF. But if you're after BF but better, do what detuned suggests: check out the Z-Lux.

This amp can get that top end going with the Treble around 2 o'clock and up while keeping the bass down. Bringing in the middle starts creating a form of chime to me. This amp also can take JJ 6V6 tubes if you want a squishyer sound. The one thing I would say is that the Therapy can get you close to a bunch of different Z amps as well as fender,Vox and Marshall esk stuff....I'm not so sure the ZLux is as versitle a platform, I don't have one, but having owned the Therapy a year now, I feel I can get any kind of sound I want.

Yep, I agree also. I can get thick with my Les Paul and some pretty good bite with my Tele.

The Therapy is a versatile amp-especially with a single coil guitar and a good OD pedal,it does several sounds very well.I recently retubed my sons early 90's DRRI,and it is eq'ed differently than the Therapy, but I get plenty of nice clean high end sounds from the Therapy. Not quite BF ish,but I like the wide range of sound I get from the amp.

I really think of the Therapy as a big bottled cousin to the Maz family. They dial in differently, but you can set them up to cover a lot of the same ground. The Therapy is just bigger, bolder, more robust, because of the 6L6's...

thanks everybody! not sure how this is going to shake out, still need to unload some stuff. have my choices down to z28, therapy, carmen ghia or maz 18nr head. if my wallet were mo'dear i'd have one of each! have played a carmen ghia and owned a maz 18 combo for three years. i have good amps to keep me company and hoping to add an amp without unloading one. would love to have my itch scratched by july but that's not really relevant. i know my spread is fairly broad but that's because i like a lot of different sounds

(BTW, I have both Z28 and Therapy - but I can get a very close Z28 sound from the Therapy, but not the other way around. Just FWIW)
