I finally dragged myself over to Rock Block today and played a Ray head and 2x12 cab with blues. I didn't even turn the volume past 1 and was absolutely in love. What an incredible amp. I couldn't really get a bad sound out of it. It loved my Heritage H535 and one the store's Les Pauls. I've got some stuff I have to sell and some Christmas money (hopefully) to get, but I will have a Ray. It was absolutely phenomenal. I had plans of playing every Z in the place (Route 66s, Ghias, RXJrs), but I just spent all the time I had there on the Ray. It was fantastic. I cannot wait to have one of those myself.

Cool! You going for the head/cab setup or a 1x12 combo?

I'll go head and cab. I've got a 1x12 Z cab already that I want to put a Weber Bluedog in, and then I'll get the 2x12 cab with the blues as well. Would the 30W Weber work with the Ray (I've got a Maz Jr. too and want it to still be able to push the 1x12 speaker), or would I have to go with the 50?
I also have to decide what color to go with! I'm debating between a blonde and a redhead.

But I like that alnico crunchy top end. If you like a smoother top, the Weber Blue Dog sure can fill that bill. I have one of the Weber 50 watt ceramic Blue Dogs here and it is very warm: I don't really care for it with the Stingray. That said, Ted Weber always makes the point that the lower wattage speakers are brighter, and I KNOW I like alnico vs ceramic on this amp. So if I were going to buy Webers for the Stingray, I'd buy a couple of 15 watt Alnicos for sure. The only thing that might make me go with the 30 watt speakers is if I had another use for them that needed the higher power.

Well, the first question I've got then is would the Alnico Gold work well with a Maz Jr. because they would be sharing the 1x12 cab. I should clarify...
I've got the Maz Jr. an older Z 1x12 w/ a Vintage 30 (that I want to change out anyway), and a ZBest 2x12 w/G12H and V30.
I want to get the Ray with a 2x12 open back cab loaded w/Alnico Blues and then replace the speaker in my 1x12 so that both amps can use it if the need arises. I want a speaker that will work with both, aka the Jr. can still push, but the Ray won't blow. That's why I was interested in the 30 watt Blue dog. If the Jr. will work with the Gold though, then that definitely would be the way to go.
Thanks for the help Benttop. Karma's definitely coming your way.

There are a few guys here using Golds with their Maz Jr. and they all seem to like it. But I think you'd be good to go with a 30 watt Weber Blue Dog too. I don't think the Weber is quite the same, but that isn't to say it's not a great sounding speaker. It's a pity we only have words to base our buying decisions on, isn't it?

I've used the Weber 30 watt Alnico Blue Dog with both a MAZ SR and my Stingray, and it works well with both. Probably my favorite speaker. Steve is right about the Celestion Blue having more top end, but that's what I didn't like about it. That and the 15 watt power rating. Didn't have enough oomph for me when the amp was cranked up a bit. Different tastes. It's all good Harold

I have a beautiful 2X12 with Alnico Blues and I just don't dig it all that much when cranked. Looking to change out to a Weber and Greenback together. Pretty sure that will rawk.
