^^^ The fan does not bother me one bit. I can't even hear it and keeps the amp cool as a cucumber.
The thing that I really dig about this amp is it sounds & feels like a vintage amp right out of the box. Speaker and all. I have never been a big fan of Eminence speakers, but this one is awesome.
Love the thin walled cab, just as I did with the Z Wreck combo. The size is the same as a standard size Z combo, but I've never heard such a big fat tone coming out of a box this small. Amazing! I could truly have this amp as an only amp situation. With a ZDrive, I can cover anything. Very clean to very mean without any tweaking..
And it sounds great at low volumes. No BrakeLite needed like in my Maz Jr.
A true masterpiece.

Im with you on the the thin walled cab mark...it does give it some resonance and sounds lively.
I don't care to brakelite my mazes either...low vol is sweet sounding...glad your digging that box...

Man, I was so looking forward to getting on of these but the the fact that even the head has a fan is a deal breaker for me. Wow I guess that's your loss. The fan is installed to increase tube life by a factor of 4. It is a 230 V fan running at 120 V so its half speed and very little to no noise. Believe me I would not include a $30.00 + part to an amp if I didn't believe in its purpose. DR.Z

I've said it before that I'm likely way over-sensitive to the fan thing in the amps. I might change my mind some day. I always said I would never buy an inverted chassis amp but I caved and bought an EZG-50...so there is still hope for me yet.

I had a fan in my Stangray, and it was never an issue. I surely wouldnt let that get in the way of buying a Z-Lux......

I think you might want to see if you can try a Z-Lux to see if the fan really bothers you. Or, see if you can purchase one with a 24 hour return policy because I don't find the fan noticeable at all.

I honestly don't even notice the fan at all. It's not an issue with me. Mark is right on point. This amp sounds like a vintage amp. But even better with its modern upgrades. It's a masterpiece.

DR.Z This caught my eye because I have owned my Z Lux Head for about 6 months and never noticed any fan noise. I just took a look inside the head and did not see a fan hiding in there. Is there supposed to be a fan in the Z Lux head? If not, that should allay the original poster's concern. Fan or not, this is the best amp I have ever played, vintage or new.

Really nice looking setup.....I concur with your tonal bliss.....just wait. Just wait until you settle in and "live" with this amp for awhile. It just gets better. For real, as you become one with it, and dial in "your" sound. Your signature sound. Congratulations

Keith if I remember correctly, you don't like fans, you don't like combo's or lower gain amps either... HOWEVER, I'm sure the head version would be awesome on a variety of cab's, the combo version is a clear winner. It sounds bigger, deeper and livelier than most 2-12 cab's....4-10 cab's and dare I say some 4-12 cab's !! Unbelievable!! Another cool thing about this amp is it's got Fender Blonde, Brown & BlackFace tones all in one box!!....with a little Tweed thrown in for good measure.

Three of my early amps I bought were combos but I quickly realized I was going to be buying a lot of amps with the same speakers, So, I figured I'd go the head and cab route. I do still have my 5150 combo though ! I like lower gain amps too...but I really like higher gain amps. I like the look of the combo, but I wouldn't buy one for the reasons above. I would actually get a head/112 cab with the Z Eminence speaker so that the cab could be used with all of my other amps. The amp sounds incredible from the demos I heard and I like tremolo. I almost want an amp like that only for the tremolo !

I have a head and there is no fan in it---is it supposed to have one??? I have a head and there is a fan! Looking from the rear of the amp it's a little left of center blowing out front through the valance. I can send pic's if it will help?

I think the fan may have been added to the head sometime after the first batch hit stores. Like the stock photo on the Doc's site, my Z Lux head (No. 63) does not have a fan. Although, I have seen photos of Z Lux heads with fans. Maybe the Doc can weigh in on this?
