On my lower back panel on my Stangray 2x12 combo, the tolex is coming undone where it is folded around to the back side. Any one know how to get this to stick

Well, I used Elmer's white glue on mine. Taped it down with masking tape, and carefully removed the tape the next day. Hasn't come off since!

Loctite super glue gel..That stuff is on almost every piece of vintage Tolex/vinyl I own, as well as my Z-best..Just be careful not to use too much as it is difficult to remove "leaks" that seep out from under the repair..Put a VERY small amount as far back under the flap as possible and push down working it toward the outer edge and hold for a few seconds..repeat as necessary until the whole thing "sticks"..Hope it works for ya, always has for me...

Well, I decided to try the Elmers glue, my kids have plenty of it in the house, and it works perfectly.

Elmers Glue is a water based glue. It will most likely come apart in high humidity. Contact cement is what manufacturers recommend.

If it doesn't hold I will try something else. I already had some, so I figured i would try it. The contact cement doesn't shrink the tolex? What about the tolex glue that is water based?

I'm not trying to argue, but I live near the ocean and my old and new amps efspecially Fenders and my Dr. Zs were sometimes were subjected to some extreme humidity conditions in the summer months from being in basements and in the car etc. My Red Zs and my Red Weber covered cabs are ALWAYS coming loose. I've tried everything. Spray ons work ok but you need to use a heavy coat.
Actually Tolex glues that are soap and water clean up are usually neoprene based. Some SOLVENT based glues will separate the tolex from the backing. My point is that Elmers is used for paper and the like. Elmers glue can be washed out of manmade and natural fabric even after it dries. Almost all Neoprene and Poly based glues will clean up with soap and water when they are wet, but when they are dry, they won't. Many are even resistant to solvents after they dry!
While Elmers has never held up long for me, I hope it does hold up long term for you!

Also on my RED Zs I have found that the back panels are MDF or something like that and it is VERY smooth. When the tolex comes up I sand it with 80 or 100 grit sand paper then use Tolex Glue. Every Red Z and Weber I've owned over three years old, I've had tolex lifting issues with! Now on two of my Red Maz 18s it is lifting around the chassis. ALL of my old Fenders did this too! I have a Jenkins Cab in Red that is over 5 years old that I haven't had any issues with.

I don't take it as arguing, I take it as useful info. I live on the Gulf Coast in Texas, so I can relate to the humidity. Thanks for the input.

Here at the shop we use contact cement for any tolex repairs. The key to success...apply to both surfaces (tolex and cab) and let it dry before you stick the tolex back down. If it isn't dry it won't adhere properly. Brent

I've always used contact cement and as Brent stated to apply to both surfaces and do not bond until both surfaces are dry to the touch.
