...and it was GLORIOUS!
I live in military housing in a 4-plex with shared walls. That means volume always has to be limited.
But I'm now the ONLY person in the whole fourplex, and my wife took my daughter out for awhile. That meant it was just me, a couple guitars, and my Stang Ray.
I inserted my triple-flange earplugs for this. I had to. It was loud. Really loud with my Z 2x12. With the Blue and the EVM in that cab, it was just a mind-blowing experience. The bottom end just thunders, the crang in the mids makes an off the shelf TS9 into a tonal masterpiece.
Most surprising of all was the Fulldrive. This thing is a COMPLETELY different animal into a cranked amp compared to my normal levels.
The SR just has a "chunka chunka" tightness to it that makes you want to play rhythm parts all day. Then you step on the FD2 and the leads just positively SING!
With the "hi" input, I was seeing breakup around 10:00 volume, but I'm almost positive this was the Blue breaking up, not the amp itself.
Honestly, I thought the "lo" input was much more versatile at high levels. The HI input could be made to turn to mush. I think I maybe was just hitting it too hard (front end signal).
I've never been able to play any of my amps before and get the "life" in the tone-- you know, where you can let it ring into feedback, and such. It was truly an epiphany.
And of course, the SR is just a beautful sounding amp at even really low levels.
I'm so incredibly pleased with this amp-- it really is exactly what I'd hoped for, and when you can crank it loud enough to where it's just starting to break up, it's perfect (lotsa control with pedals and guitar knobs).
