I think the fact that the amp is so pure sounding. The Doc voiced the amp like a pre tob boost model. There is nothing to hide behind with one of these unlike something like a Marshall JCM 800. A players shortcomings will definitely be brought out along with bad technique. I was always a big fan of the AC30 and had a re-issue for a little while. I considered a Sting/Stangray when they were first released but realized I might just be better suited to an all rounder like the Maz Sr and went that way.

I just noticed and thought the same thing 4 stangs at once. I just have to say that I own one already and it is still my favorite amp after a year and a half. Its just the sound I was looking for. I love its articulation and if anything it has only made me a better player. I've heard every Z amp and this one still makes my skin chill. I just think people are wanting to try the galaxy in my opinion. I thought about sell my route 66 to buy one. But never the stang. It's my sound. airy tele driven brit rock.

Yeah, my 'ray sure isn't going anywhere. I love the sound of it. It is the cornerstone of my live play rig.

There are always some that have to get the latest thing just to try it out. I think the Stang may be my next addition to go along with the Ghia.

I noticed that one other time, right after I got my Stangray Combo 1/12. I was planning to sell my Head/Cab Stangray to finance its purchase but when I saw the competition resulting in falling prices I refused to let my beloved piggyback go for less. I have since made other arrangements to pay for the newer combo and am relieved that I kept both.
I'd bet most amp buyers tend toward crunch and shred as their tastes evolve and to cover sloppy chops, I did at a younger age. Most marketers know this and produce product accordingly. My bet is there are few of Stang Ray owners out there who aren't quite ready to appear "in the raw" so to speak, so they're selling. There is definitely a "get-it" factor when it comes to playing a Stang.

This sort of thing happens all the time on Ebay. For weeks you can't find something then all of a sudden there are tons of them all at once. I call this opportunity. It knocked and now my Stang Ray is on the way!!! I can't wait to plug it in!!!!

Maybe they just found them to be too bright for there tastes? I tried one along with an RXES and both are just too bright for me. Good amps, just not my cup o' tea. I think a lot of people bought them thinking they would sound like Brad Paisley.

I bought one because I love the sound of an AC/30. The Ray sounds different but still good. The cut can take away enough bright for me.

I sold mine too (1x12 combo with Celestion Gold), part exchange for a new Fender Telecaster 52 Vintage Hot Rod (great guitar BTW). Huge clean tone from the Z, as everyone mentions, but just a bit too bright for my tastes, and the idea of changing speakers in and out to get the right blend didn't appeal.... more $$$$. Still got a 2x10 Z28 combo, which gives up some grit at more manageable levels for my purposes, and sounds pretty fine to these ears. Also, I was really surprised and disappointed that I didn't instantly sound like Brad P on plugging into the StangRay..... What's up with that!?

Think....All the people that have played AC-30's over the years, Not one of them sound like Brad paisley. Brad could play through a car stereo and sound good. The ray is just an ac-30 that is a little more road worthy. The two may sound different. I have an 63 ac and a friend of mine has a 70's model. Another friend has a 90's RI. None of them sound the same. I bought my AC from from Mike E's music. As the story goes....this is where Brad first tried the Mazerati. Mike had two ac's on the floor, both 60's vintage. They sounded nothing alike. I played a 2x12 ray at rock block a while back that was so harsh that you could kill people with it. My ray is great. My point....and I'm no expert....figure out what works for you...find your sound. Ok, I'm done.

Yup, I was talkin' bout the Ray as well Steve. The reason I said BP is that he was mentioned A LOT when this amp was talked about. And sometimes inexperienced buyers will buy something in hopes of getting his tone cause they have his amp. That's all. And we all know it happens. I'm not puting the Ray down in any way, I really wanted to like it. But by the time I had enough of the top end killed the low end was too flabby for me. This was a 1X12 combo with a gold. I played a Route 66 an hour later and I had one in my home in 2 weeks. LOL I'm truely not trying to offend anyone, just my thought's on why so many are on the bay right now.

Steve, I would think that a Maz Sr could be your next best friend. I've had mine for about 2 years now and the honeymoon is not over with. Got a reverb model and had the doc put a loop on it too and it works very well. Actually, it's one of the very best loops I've ever used. The Sr is just so versatile. Put a Emi Cannabis Rex in my Z 1X12 cab and it absolutely loves my Sr!
Nitehawk, I love the Carr, but I've got to get a buffer for the loop. Kind of bugs me that I gotta spend more $$ on an amp that already cost me so much just so I have a usable effects loop. And you cannot put any time based effects in front of that amp when using the gain channel. This is where it's obvious that Z's are excelling in flexability. But I absolutely adore the amp, nothing else like it.
