Hello,
I've had the Stangray for a couple of weeks. Can anyone give some details on the Cut control? Is is a roll-off, or some sort of band-pass? Clearly, at the far ends you lose ... that end of the frequency curve. In practice how do you all set it? Are there any technical docs on the Cut & Tone controls on this amp?
Thanks in advance.

Not sure what you would be looking for. If you want more top end sizzle, turn it up. If you want less, turn it down. I know "top end sizzle" isn't very scientific, nor does it have a specific frequency associated, but you can hear it, can't you? Just curious if that's what you mean...

Thanks, yeah I was looking for more specifics. What type of filter is in there? Even the purpose of it - tweeking highs or lows once you have Tone set where you want, is that it?

I don't think it does anything to the lows. At least I don't notice that. I don't have a clue about how it actually works in the circuit.

The Cut control works in the power section of the amp--- not the preamp section, as far as I know.
As for where I run the controls, that's the easy part and the beauty of Z amps. With a 1x12, I run the tone at 2:00 with a 2x12, I turn it down to noon or lower. The Cut I adjust to the guitar. Usually between 9:00 and noon works best for me, with brighter guitars (like my Tele with the oh-so-bright-Bardens) I run it lower, and with other guitars I run it higher.
It's sometimes useful to think of the tone as a bass control, and the cut as a treble control-- though it's not that simple.
Notice that when you crank up the Tone control past 2:00, you'll hear a lot of the high end go away, even with the Cut cranked. Likewise, with the Tone set lower, you can run the Cut lower and get a balanced sound.

I run mine tone at 11;30 and cut at like 8:00 on the dial...barely any cut because with my ceramic speakers (v30/G12h30) it gets really spikey and harsh. I have a blue dog on the way to replace the V30 though....hopefully that will help. Incredible amp.

I have Blues for my Stang, so that's why I can run the cut a little higher-- they're smooooth on top, even though they are bright.
