I haven't seen much discussion on tube swapping for the Stangray. I'm looking to maybe tame a little top end and soften the attack a little. What tubes have you guys had luck with? Boo

I like a 5751 in V2. It rolls off the top nicely. It's really good for that Blues Thang. Myles posted some stuff on here a while ago on tube swapping but I can't find it now. Myles?

Sam ...
The 5751 is a cool option.
The NOS tube in your amp is great .... I think it is a 12AX7 ... I do not recall but it has my writing on it in silver ink. I noticed that when Carl was playing with the amp this weekend.

I love these in a MAZ. This is from Mike at KCA.

I recently emailed Mike K. for suggestions. Parameters were a little less headroom for earlier breakup and a touch less high end. Prices came in at $293 for all 7

I have an RCA5751 in my Ghia and the one in the ray is a panasonic. www.kcanostubes.com/products/48/NOS-RCA-5751-Blackplate.htmGroove Tubes also offers a 5751 Mullard clone that sounds very nice. Sam

Sam Oh I see, so the 5751 would primarily give me more headroom, which is at a premium with the Ray. Does it roll off the highs a bit as well? That's more of what I am looking for. I absolutely love the tones but if I could roll off some highs without losing the bite I would be a happy camper. Thanks, B

I think the main reason you don't see much discussion of tubeswapping with the Stang Ray is that the amp just sounds so good right out of the box. Sure, you can tweak the flavor a bit, but there's no ailment in need of a tubeswapping remedy.
I love my Stang's tone. It's consistent, and consistently great. Who knew you only needed three knobs?
