Anybody get a new Stang Ray combo yet? Just wondering how all that low-end effects the cabinet/tubes etc.

How do you like your Stang as opposed to the ES you had rockstok?
I would think this amp would shine in a head/cab arrangement.

I love them both but the Stang Ray gives me the big bottom I crave. The middle and top end sing with chimey bite. I think the idea of a Stang Ray combo is great because I play a lot of small stages where I need to lean the amp back to hear it. A piggyback amp is great for larger venues. A fat low end can rattle lesser made box to pieces. The cabinet would have to be strong as a tank, which Z cabs are, and the tubes would have to be well isolated. I just don't know anyone who owns one yet.

I just bought a 2 x 12 combo off of ebay - Stingray #14, and I am mightily impressed. I've had about 5 Z's in the past, and a couple of 'em had a tendency to be a bit harsh and trebly at times - depending on the room, the guitar and how you set 'em up. I dearly love my Maz 18 Reverb, and there have been some gigs where I know it is the best amp on the planet... but it is an amp that can sound a bit trebly and brittle too at times. And sometimes dialing out the treble means losing the "chime". But the Stingray (or Stang Ray) is voiced such that it is very forgiving on the ears. There is still a wide range of sounds that the Tone control gives you - very, very interactive - but this combo with it's Celestion Blues is big and fat in the bottom end, chimey in the top, and with lots of headroom. You can then dial in "bite" with the Cut control. This is an amp that sounds unoffensive on the bridge pickup of a Fender - I can see why Tele players like it! It will break up nicely at 12 O'Clock, but it is still nice and "tight" sounding. I put Beam Blockers in all my amps... just cause I don't like that focussed sound out front and center in the crowd. I think they make too much of the idea that combos vibrate the chassis... and it's certain not an issue with this sturdy amp. Kudos to Dr Z's Medical Research Lab for developing this new treatment for what ails ya!!!

Call me crazy, but here I am, waiting patiently for my Stang Ray head and cab to come in, and all of a sudden the GAS comes back. After reading all the postings about the 1x12 version of the Ray and RxES, I've suddenly starting wanting a RxES with the new Gold speaker. I was torn between either the Ray and the RxES when I decided to go with the Ray, knowing that I would probably end up owning both eventually. But come on, I don't even have the Ray yet and I'm already thinking about another amp. This is getting rediculous. Anybody else have a similar problem???

I am talking to Carl Verheyen about replacing the Vox AC-30 in his current 4 amp rig with a Stangray 2x12 combo.

I am talking to Carl Verheyen about replacing the Vox AC-30 in his current 4 amp rig with a Stangray 2x12 combo. Prolly all you have to do is get him to plug in his Tele and play a bit on the bridge pup. If that don't convert him, nothing will.

Seriously, though--- playing the Stang will leave you so satisfied that you'll forget that any other amp exists. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's so PERFECTLY that "sound in my head" that I can't express how happy I am with my Stang. You'll go crazy wondering if some other amp would be better or if you shoulda got a Scrip ES. I personally thing that a Stang has a better base tone, and can get any other tone with the right pedals. There's no question how good an ES sounds though. I suspect an ES with a 1x15 cab would have ol SRV himself in hog heaven! jmo

I got the new Stang Ray 1x12 Combo in blond. It arrived this week and it's a beauty. It appears to have the same cab that a Maz Sr/Jr would have and the chassis is more or less turned upside-down. For me a combo will allow me to play the small stages and lean the amp back, something I couldn't do with a piggy back configuration. With the 12" Celestion Gold I won't have any problems playing bigger stages.
This means I'll be putting my 7 month old, mint condiiton SR head pictured to the left (blond w/ black front panel) , up for sale...$1,600. and worth every penny.

I have serious lust for a Stang Ray in a 1x12 combo configuration - dang that just seems almost too perfect to me.
