Hey guys, first time posting here!
looking at a galaxie 2x10 combo; tried it out today and really liked the touch sensitivity and overall tone of the amp, but I was taken back a little by the midrange...it was almost too prominent. Much to my surprise there was no midrange tone control! Not used to dr z's and how their tone stack works, but I'm assuming there's a way to dial some of it out? This will be my 1st doctor z amp (I do own a z best cab)...I'm a marshall guy (own a silver jubilee and a '70 superlead) but looking for something different...
The z best cab has a creamback in it instead of the v30, wondering if anyone here has tried the galaxie thru the z best yet...
also, is it possible to remove the 2x10 baffle and replace it with a single 12"? I think maybe the 2x10 is the reason why it has an over-the-top midrange...
thanks!

I don't have my Galaxie 2X10 any more, but I don't remember it being overly middy...the boost mode had a strong midrange, but that does help it cut through in a band setting. In the regular setting, I remember the tone controls as being very interactive, and that they also add gain after about noon on the dial. Play with it, and don't be surprised if the controls end up in a non-typical (i.e. Fender, etc.)setting to get what you like. Doc did make a 1X12 version of the Galaxie...not sure what all is involved in swapping out the baffle, but I'd think the 12" would be a bit MORE midrange prominent (depends on the speaker).

Decrease the bass and increase the treble. I run mine with the bass no higher than 9:00 and the treble between 12:00 and 2:00 with the stock 10s. Also check to make sure that it is biased correctly. If it's biased hotter you get more mids. You could even try running it a bit cold. That Fender sound partly comes from Fender generally running their classic amps cold. The amp is a take on a 210 Super so the 10s are part of its sound.

Here's some advice from the past fwiw. A quote from T-ROCK a big galaxie enthusiast with some nice tunes featuring the amp. I actually liked when he paired it up with some old JBL 15's but this was his take on the amp with Z-BEST. Galaxie/Zbest/greenbacks = KILL.....BUT.....if I were going to use a 1x12 with it....MY choice(s) would be.... (Open back)....Celestion Gold.......Weber 50 watt Blue(AlNiCo)...Doesn't have to be a Weber, but....if not a Gold..... that's what I would buy..........VERY light dope. (Closed/Semi-closed)... G1265..... Hellatone V30....... Sorry Bro....I 'aint hep to Eminence as non-factory items. JMO/FWIW...etc...... Read more: ztalk.proboards.com/thread/16757/galaxie-eminence-wizard#ixzz3uq41852l I really like the way my Weber California sounds in a Dr.Z convertible 1x12 but any way you can't lose. Were you playing the amp in triode or pentode mode?

Welcome to the forum Jodyzuza. I have the head model with the master volume mod. I've never found my Galaxie to have too much midrange on Channel 2. I used a EQ pedal for a while to scoop some of the midrange out on Channel 1 for a cleaner more fender black face sound. I found a happy spot on the bass knob at the 9:00-10:00 range and don't use the EQ anymore. I wish the Galaxie had a separate bass knob for each channel because for me: I like the bass knob down on channel 1 and over 12:00 on channel 2. I found that I can use a fat boost pedal on channel 2 to make up for the bass knob being lower. Plus it gives me two different gain options for channel 2. I currently am using a 1-12 open back pine cabinet with a V-30. I'm hoping to try out the G12-65 soon.

Welcome Jodyzuza, I have Galaxie #30. Dr Z Amps really project sound good. It may take a second to adjust. Play with the controls.
Cheers, Richard

Mine is a 1x 12" combo, and my favorite speaker is an Eminence Legend. I think it is a 75 watt version. I also have a couple of Scumback speakers one of each kind, and they definitely sound like older Celestion speakers and are a bit mid rangy. The amp is vastly underrated and the only downside is the significant volume difference between channel one and two with out the MV mod.
