This question goes out to those of you who have played the Stang Ray with the Xotic RC Booster. My question is how does the amp react to this pedal? I have an AC Booster that I recently purchased and think it will sound wonderful to boost the Stang Ray into overdrive territory, but I also want to add a cleaner pedal to give the sound that little extra something when needed. You know, something to fill things out a little without sending the tone into overdrive land. A little grit for solos would be nice, but nothing over the top. For this type of application, would the RC work or would I be better off going with a compressor for the Stang Ray? Just curious.

There are bound to be quite a few Ray owners who also use an RC, so I'm sure you'll have plenty of first-hand feedback. I don't own a Ray, but I do have an RxES and I use two RCs with the RxES. The Rx works wonderfully with the RC, in exactly the ways you've described. I use one as an overall 'tone enhancer', i.e., as something of an EQ with just a hint of gain. The treble and bass controls on the RC are great! They can help you augment the EQ of the Ray in whatever direction you want it to go. I use the 2nd RC as a boost. Pretty much a clean boost, which it does exceptionally well. But I have also used it as a second stage of grit after the first RC, building very small levels of grit as I go from RC #1 to RC #2 to King of Tone to TS9, etc.
If the RxES works so well with the RC, I'm sure the Ray will also.
Cheers

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like I might be needing an RC.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like I might be needing an RC. I would say so! The RC continues to be my favorite pedal, going strong for close to 3 years now. It drives the front end of your amp, but keeps everything nice and "clean" so your Z tone rulz. With a Keeley comp and BB in front of the RC, it don't get much better.

I love the way the RC interacts with the Stingray. You can hear mine in the sounds forum - and for that matter, Madison has some great clips over there too. Check them out.

I think RC would work great with every amp, because of its transparence, its dinamic response and the way it "pushes up" your sustain without altering tone...

Thanks for the info on the RC guys. I think I'm gonna wait for my Stang Ray to come in first. Then I'll probably have to sneak the RC in on the wife. She hasn't said it yet, but I think she's starting to get a little anoid with my amp buying binge lately.

Ooops, time to show up on Valentines day with a very expensive new ring, necklace, or maybe even a new car! That usually placates them a while...

Yeah, I'm working on gift ideas as we speak. It probably wouldn't be as bad if she weren't going through morning sickness at the same time. Gotta love early parts of pregnancy. I'll come up with something though. I always pull through.
