I recently purchased the MAZ 38 Sr (head) and matched it with the Z-Best 2x12 cab. If in the future, I buy the Stang Ray, do you think it would make a good match with the Z-Best or is it stupid to get the Stang without the Celestion Blues? Any Stang players here pairing it with a Z-Best cab?

The MAZ 38 and Zbest are a perfect match. The Stingray can sound good through the Zbest depending on the speakers. I love the G12H30, but don't care for the Vintage 30. I personally prefer the Stingray through an open back cab. I know it sounds crazy, but the Stingray has a huge bottom end, and it almost felt like it was too much for the Zbest. I also tried the Celestion Blues, but didn't care for them, although a lot of the guys swear by them. I found the Weber Alnico Blue Dog to be more to my liking. It still has the chime, but is a little thicker and stronger to my ear. I currently have that paired with a G12H30, and am pretty happy. Experiment and trust your ears! Good luck!

I got the Blues w/ my stang because Stu at fatsound recommended them. I had no reference and shelled out just based on the good reports.
I wouldn't say it's stupid to try other speakers with the Ray. In fact, why spend $500+ on Blues if you like other speakers' sounds? I'd say to just get a head and try difference speakers as the opportunities present themselves. Combo isn't as easy to speaker swap, imo.
I love the sound of my Stang, and I have to think that it would sound at least DECENT with any guitar speaker at all. But if you want to move up from decent to magical, then you have to mess with speakers to find your sound.
