Looking for some advice here. My Stang Ray is a head with Z 2-12 cab with Alnico Blues. Wonderful sounding amp, especially when I first plugged it in at RMC. I have it in my house upstairs in a room that has wall to wall carpet. It does not sound nearly as sweet as it did in the store. I'm figuring that the concrete floor has alot to do with that. Could anyone recommend what I could do to help improve the tone of the amp in this room? Should I use a sheet of plywood underneath or plexi-glass and place the amp on that? Also, I have it placed caddy-corner in the room. Should I place it directly against the wall? Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hmmmm, I usually find a lot of fabric/ carpet in a room makes my amp sound better, cause I can crank the tubes more. More echo and less bottom on concrete or wood.
Tommy, that is one loud amp in your room, especially with the 2x12 cabinet. To get the most out of it, I'd suggest you consider looking for a 1x12 with a less efficient speaker than the blues, and put a good compressor in the chain and adjust the threshold. I know you typically like more gain in your tone, are you using an OD pedal?
On the other hand, the 'Ray is the best sounding quiet amp I've ever heard...so YMMV. My new Keeley BD2 with a Tone Press is real nice with the 'Ray...I can bring them over for you to try this weekend if you're interested.

An Air Brake is fun to have too in the house, and the gig too.

Bill, as far as OD pedals go, I have a Fulltone OCD, a reissue TS808. Also have a RC Booster. The OCD sounds great with the Invader, but not that good to my ears with the Stang Ray. I have ordered an AC Booster and a BB Pre Amp. My goal is get a nice low gain tone for rhythm. You are right it is alot of amp, but it is so sweet and clean sounding. Sounds awesome with my Nocaster, but just felt like it was losing some of its incredible tone through the carpeted floor.

Tommy, we'll be playing next Saturday at ASX Motorcycles in Amelia (Rt 360), from 1:00 to 3:00. It's a benefit Poker Run ending at ASX. I haven't decided on the 66 or 'Ray...probably will use the Stingray w/ a modest pedalboard. Come on by if you can.
The next day there's a big jam in Crewe at Hooper Park commencing around noon. Bring your amp/ geetar of choice...HUGE stage!
