Dagnabbit! Wouldn't you know, my cab shows up yesterday and they called just before I had to leave for a commitment. Of course, they are closed today, and I have a load of commitments tomorrow too, but I WILL get by there to snag that cab somehow... Pics and sound clips to follow! ;D

d'OH!
Man this cab sounds premium! Running the Stingray's volume at noon, tone at about 10 o'clock and cut at noon, running with the Airbrake down four clicks, and using the high input, my Tele just sounds AWESOME! I hope this cab's tone doesn't change much, because this is exactly what I wanted from it. WOW! I have to hand it to Mike, this amp is world class! ;D

And another thing - I wanted to check some overdrive with the Stingray and the new 2x12 - well the only thing at arms reach was my ancient old Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamer. So I stuck a fresh battery in there and WHOA! That works pretty good! I always liked the TS-9 but I'd gotten away from it in recent years - I may have to put it back on my pedal board! Sounds great with the Stingray!

just let us know when IT changes and those speakers shift cause they will...
and when it does I need to say "I told ya so... "
cause I didn't believe it either until I heard it "shift"... I still think Shannon's Stingray with the Blues in it sounds better every time I hear it... just seems to keep getting better to me!

OK I just got home from gigging this new setup and all I have to say is ANOTHER WORLD CLASS AMP IN THE HOUSE! Dang, the Stingray with it's Alnico Blues just plain RAWKED! It definitely likes my Tele's bridge pickup though, but that didn't seem to be any kind of problem no matter what we played. I used it with the classic rock band, so those tones work pretty well. I'm pumped - that thing really did it for me all night. I'm falling asleep at the keyboard though, so I'll have to give a better accounting in the morning...

OK, I've had my afternoon nap now, and got some work done around here, so now I can tell the story a little better. I had two gigs yesterday. Our classic rock band (oldies? classic rock? one or the other) has been together for 35 years (!!!!!) so we put on a big shindig at the place we've played for years. This place is a roadhouse in every sense of the word - seats 550 and in the warm weather it gets about 95 in there. No chicken wire, but plenty of warm bodies... I also had a blues festival to play in the late afternoon, so I had to work out some logistics. I decided to play the Stingray alone. I've really been planning on using the Stingray and the Flexi-50 together, but I wanted to fly the Stingray solo and use a pedal for distortions because I want to get the speakers broken in ASAP. So I dropped the Stingray at the club on the way to the blues festival, where I used the Flexi. I figured that would help with the load-in/load-out fatigue at the end of the night. And it did. But an interesting thing happened. During the blues festival, we had a planned guest (many musicians in many venues around the park we were playing, so they come sit in during their break). The guest was a guitarist, so I plugged him into the Flexi and got off the back of the stage to watch. While he did a couple tunes, a guy approached me and said that he had heard me there two years ago and bought a THD amp after he heard my tone. Cool. So when the guy got done, I went back up and we finished. Fast forward to the evening - I'm playing at the bar, but instead of the Strat I'm using the Tele, and instead of the Flexi, I'm using the Stingray. And it's sounding VERY good. Halfway through the first set, I look down and there is that same guy looking at me with this funny look on his face. So at break I went over to him to chat. He said "When I walked through the door, I thought to myself there's some serious killer tone going on here, I have to find out who/what etc." When he came around the PA fronts, there I was. That's why he had this funny look - same guy, completely different setup and tone, but still killer. We had a good laugh about that, and I wouldn't be surprised to find out he was all over the Dr. Z web page today. That's the thing about killer amps, they sell themselves! So, the Stingray earned its keep last night. I had just enough headroom - this place is about as loud as I play on an indoor gig, and I still had the Airbrake one click down from through. I ran the volume at noon all night and it sounded just amazing. I've always used mainly my neck pickup with the tunes we play in that band, but the bridge was sounding SO good that I just kept using it, and no one complained a whit. In fact, I think it sounded way better for most tunes. I'm now not sure if I want to marry the Flexi and the Stingray - for that style stuff, the Stingray certainly holds its own. It's nice that I have options - and the Stingray sure is a GREAT option to have! ;D

Hey, that's great! Personally I think the Ray can do anything. It might be a little clean for some stuff but that's what pedals are for. That amp just has so much clarity that I love it for everything. Since I got the Ray I haven't turned on the Ghia or unpacked the Maz 38. I don't know if it's because I'm lazy or the amp is so good but I think it's because the Ray is so good.

The guitar with only the 'ray just has a wonderfully complex clean tone - I've never heard anything quite like it! Got some experimenting to do here...
