Someone I know just waltzed in to Mid Town Music in Atlanta and played a Stang Ray there. See www.midtownmusic.com/inventory2.html and here's the image of it: d'OH! That appears to be my color combination - dang, if I had another $2400 I'd order it from them!

Cool pic on there too. But it doesn't match the text that says: Colors: Black.

By the way, the guy that pointed out this Stang Ray is a fellow forumite on the Univalve.net forums. He said he thought the Stang Ray was the best sounding amp money can buy. He just isn't in the position to make a purchase right now, or that one above would have been his.

OOOO THAT'S MY COLOR COMBINATION!! So, why am I waiting for my amp to be built when there's one already built and for sale? I guess the dealers have just as much say as the pre-orders do:) That's TWICE in the last two days were I need to kick myself. See my earlier post on NOT buying the new R7 Goldtop for $1700...

hohn, Not to be the devil on your shoulder, but you could snatch that one up and then sell yours when they ship it to you! On the other hand, if I were you, I'd wait for mine (it'll sound sweeter!).

Not to be the devil... That's funny right there.
I better wait for mine. 1) I need time to assemble the remaining fundage, and 2) If I get it now, all I'll do is play and neglect my paternal familia responsibilities:)
I got an idea! I could just rip off a picture of someone else's Stang, and sell a box of potato chips on Ebay for the price of a great amp! Fraud? What's that?

Guilty Party checking in...
The Stang Ray is without a doubt an amazing amp; probably the best amp I've ever had the pleasure of playing. Benttop had made a comment on the Univalve.net forum about the amp having an "organic" feel and sound. Well, I think that more than describes the complexity of the sound.
I would love to buy that amp, but in the last 6 months, I've taken ownership of...a THD BiValve, a PRS McCarty Rosewood, a Fender Strat, 2 pedals, and a boatload of tubes. I'm not sure the wife is up for anymore musical expenditures right now!
Kudos to Dr. Z and Brad Paisley for such a phenomenal amp...it's on my short list now!

That Stang Ray looks nice, but they don't sound as good as the original Stingrays. A difference in the chemical composition of the paint in the block logo compared to the original script logo affects the electron flow around the output transformer. This adversely changes the tone of the newer models. Glad I got my Stingray! ;D

Yep, I couldn't resist after hearing Madison's clips over on the Sounds thread. Now I need to get a Tele, but I guess my Strat will have to do for a while, cause that head and cab set me back a little.

The new ones don't sound as good! Oh no! Now we'll have to get them refinished so we can get that last .0000000000000000000000001% of tone!

I heard refinishing them doesn't get that last bit-o-tone - the "real" Stingrays use logo paint that isn't available any more. You might be able to find some NOS paint, but its tone changes as it ages, so I think you're just out of luck.

I heard the difference is also due to the originals " SCRIPT" style logo... the SCRIPT writing actually adds smoothness ( around the edges ) to the amp soundwise... whereas the BLOCK logo is more sharp ( around the edges ) soundwise... I never knew the paint and the way the logo's written on the front could make such a difference! ;D

Also there's more INK used doing the CHUNKY block lettering, so the STANG RAY is lots heavier than the STINGRAY. Just thought you guys should be aware!

Does your Stingray have the TMAF ( Trade Mark Applied For) sticker on the back of the logo? The ones that are really worth a lot have those stickers. BE CAREFUL!! I heard that those badgers at Dr. Z got wind of the price spike, so they've gone and put those TMAF stickers on the backs of all their amps, just to make people think they're the real deal! We know better!! (Can you just see some guy careening his neck to try and find the back of the logo on the chassis? I'm laughing just typing this! You guys are smarter than that. I hope ATTENTION Z-FORUM MEMBERS AND GUESTS: THE ABOVE WEB POSTING BY Z-FORUM MEMBER PROPELLR IS NOT REAL. THE TECHNICIANS AT DR. Z AMPLIFICATION ARE NOT BADGERS, AND THE EXPRESSED WRITTEN VIEWS OF MEMBER PROPELLR ARE NOT ACTUAL. PROPELLR MEANS NO HARM TO YOU OR TO YOUR FAMILIES. HE PROMISES NOT TO LAUGH AT YOU IF YOU HURT YOURSELF TRYING TO LOCATE A FICTITIOUS TMAF STICKER ON YOUR AMPLIFIER. FINALLY, PROPELLR WANTS TO MAKE CLEAR THAT HE ESTEEMS DR. Z, HIS EMPLOYEES, THEIR FAMILIES, AND DR. Z DEALERS AND DR. Z AMPLIFIER OWNERS. THAT IS ALL. THANK YOU. (Was that too subtle? Do you think they got it?)

I heard the block logo has a sharper, manly, more penetrating tone. Not soft and feminine like the cursive logo. Daisy Rock guitars won't even play thru a block logo amp. The amp spits the plug right out of the jack. But I heard that the cursive logo amps and the Daisy Rock guitars strip down to their bras and panties and have pillow fights when no one's home. I don't know if that's true or not but that's what I heard.
