I can't decide if I want to keep my EZG-50. It's only a year old, but I've barely used it compared to my MAZ 18 NR.
I'll probably get hated on for this, but I turn the reverb completely off playing live. I'd rather use a pedal that can be turned on and off. Playing quieter at home is more useful.
Not quite sure about it yet, but in fairness I haven't gotten to use it loudly all that much. Definitely overkill at home, but still nice. Just not sure that I'm utilizing it to the fullest. Nonetheless, I can't believe how few Z-ites like the EZG.

While I'm here...
I honestly don't understand the Pre / Post thing. Can anyone explain in simple and technical terms what each does?

I didnt bond with my EZG. I wanted to love it and kept it thinking I could learn to love it, but I never did. I was in the same boat as you, contemplating on whether to keep it, I eventually sold it off, and honestly have never missed it once. I then bought a Jaz 20/40 to replace it and like it a lot better, I think I just prefer 6v6 compared to 6L6. The EZG and the Therapy were the 2 Z amps I disliked the most, I wanted to love the therapy as well becuase of all the hype but sometimes the hype is just that to some people. I have an M12 the Jaz 20/40 and a maz jr and really like all 3 of those

I love my EZG because it gives me that solid, clean sound at higher volumes if I need it but also at low volumes as well. I can't wait until my Z Drive comes in to see how it sounds as a three channel amp. I know it isn't for everyone but it is a keeper for me. I purchased it to replace my Twin and never looked back.

To me the Pre volume would describe the pre-amp section of the tubes and the Post would describe the Power tube section. Crank the pre up and lower the post for more grind from the pre amps or raise the post for more head room. Or crank both up to shake the walls down.
Personally for me, my Z experience has taught me to work thru my initial unsureness about liking amps. The Ghia wasn't love at first strum for me but in time my ears adapted to what was happening and it soon became my favorite amp ever. Even now, NOT owning one makes me wonder why I sold it...even though I know why.( depression mixed with a loud band mate)
Then with the Monza. I was really disappointed at first because it was not what I assumed it would be. I wrestled with it for a while and started working thru my ears....in time I realized what I HAD and stopped thinking about my expectations of it. Now, again, the Monza may very well be my favorite amp. It definitely has become my favorite lead sound.
Sometimes we just don't know what we have and we keep comparing it to what we thought we had. I guess for many getting what we want is important, but for me finding out what I have has been much more fulfilling and lead me to explore sounds, tones, and styles of playing that I might not have ventured into if I would of just had it my way from the start.
Of course sometimes an amp just doesn't stimulate us...for me, hearing things I'm not sure if I like, but still find myself fully engaged in the playing, has lead me to realize that my Z amps are stimulating my senses in ways that other amps that fill my idea of sound don't. These Z amps keep finding a way to enliven my senses and that isn't easy to do year after year.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I think I'm going to give the amp another couple of months.
I was able to play with the amp fairly loudly today (Pre 3pm / Post 12pm), and it sounded great. Just straight in with a Tele. I'm still working on the Mids with this amp. Seems different than Fender. Not bad. Just different.

They do more than I'm use to and it's taken me a while to understand how to interact with them. The Diabolical Dr Z strikes again....

the EZG gets WAY louder than I ever need it to...I struggled in the beginning until I put a rivera rock crusher attenuator in the path. Then I could explore all the glorious tones without sterilizing myself and those around me!

An attenuator is an excellent option!! I use a bakelite for my Antidote as well.

Due to its volume potential, I definitely play my EZG with my Air Brake to get the volumes knobs up higher. It took me a little while to get used to the amp. I liked it at first but just wasn't getting it dialed into "that" tone that really did it for me. I kept twisting EQ knobs and playing with the two volumes and now I really like it and can get "that" tone now. I played it through a Z 1x12 gold cab the other night and wow, very nice tone. I had not played it though that cab in a while and sure enjoyed the experience.

I accept that the EZG may be an acquired taste for some. However for me it's a real class act. Whilst it may lack an immediate "gee whizz" factor compared to some amps, it is nevertheless possessed of a lasting sense of bold authority and confidence rarely found elsewhere. A sort of gentle giant.
Heck, did I just write that?!?

It is a definite "Stand alone" amp that is often overlooked until you need it then you have a WTF moment...

I had the head and tried it with a variety of cabinets but never bonded with it in spite of the fantastic reverb and super full tone. It was hard to dial in a glassy Fender like tone that I was seeking with this amp. I had a Maz jr at the same time and decided to keep the Maz and sell the EZG. I don't regret it as the Maz is a great live performance amp and loves pedals. I have since purchased a Z-Lux and am keeping both the Maz and the ZLux. I feel like I have the best of both worlds now.

It's not glassy blackface Fender like tone, I agree. It has this girth, however, that most Fenders lack IMO.
