Hello everyone! I've been a long time reader but just joined. I've owned a Z28 and a Maz 18 head and a RxES 212. The RxES was the best IMHO but had continual probs so I returned it. Long story short is I landed Stingray #17 last night! If I'm not mistaken it is 1 of 2 Stings out of the 1st 50... cause it's a 112 with a Blue!! Just wanted to say hi and I sure hope all of your positive comments about this amp are accurate for me. The RXES was the best individual sounding amp I've ever owned ( and I've owned Two Rocks, Brunos, Bogners, CAA's, Carrs etc ) so if it as good or better than the ES... I'll be happy!! ;D Here's a pic: well $*** I can't figure out how to insert an image.. doesn't seem to work ...help maybe this will work/!>!>!>>> >>>>!!..... pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/cam_jan1/album?.dir=mail&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/cam_jan1/my_photos

You need to use the syntax "bracket IMG bracket URL bracket /IMG bracket" to get it to work. Use the square brackets.
Hmmm... doesn't appear Yahoo allows embedding their images... OH, the URL doesn't work at all. Yahoo says I have to log in to see that image. You might want to try a different image storage location like Flikr or Photobucket.

str8arrow, Welcome to the forum, and instant Karma for landing that stingray! You'll like it........ and if you don't I WILL TAKE IT OFF YOUR HANDS for ya... just let me know how much you want for it!! ( yea right, like you won't like it... if you liked the RX ES you should love the Ray) But just remember I got 1st dibs... ;D ;D ;D I couldn't get the picture... whats the color combination on it?? BTW you can use somebody like photobucket to host your images for free and they have the links to the picture underneath... you just use the to have the pic on the thread, instead of the [http] to put only the "link" to the pic on the thread.... hope that helps... Jason

str8arrow: Are you Chuck? If not, then you are the 3rd owner of a 1x12 Stingray combo, a very rare offering.
I went straight from RxES to Stingray, and all I'll say is... ;D

I didn't realize there were any 112's out there. Seems like a pretty powerful amp for a Blue - I wonder if it's the same speaker?

yes I'm hoping to rape, mame and pillage with it ;D According to Chuck the speaker isn't even broken in yet but I think it will be a nice compliment to my Fargen Blackbird... which has the exact same color scheme. Do OD and high gain pedals sound good through the amp? I need to cover old and new country to pretty heavy rock. btw: our band is www.str8arrowband.com Still have a lot of work to do on the site but your welcome to check out what's there. Pretty sure it's a Celestion... which does seem strange?!

Chuck had dropped me an email about the amp last month...it has a Celestion Blue in it. So you'll have to keep and eye on things volume wise, or do like I did and put a Weber 50w alnico in it and CRANK without fear.
Will it do new & old country? Yes, very well, stick a comp & delay in the chain. Rock? Yes, with the OD pedal of your choice. My 'ray will light it up with a Keeley Rat.
Let us know how it compares to your CAA, very curious about that.

Do you have the other 112? ? If so please fill me in!!!! I now have a Keeley Comp, Keeley BD2, VS Jekyll & Hyde, Boss GT8. The CAA is a great amp but I did not care for the clean channel much... for country esp. Channel 2 was nothing short of superb! Besides, a heavy head (50lbs) and 212 cab(50lbs) was killing my old back, so I sold the CAA... enter the Fargen 112 Blackbird @ 35 lbs. And that's why I wanted a 112 SR. I know it's heavier than the Fargen but it's one piece and a tad simpler set up than a head/cab...... my 50 year old back just can't do the heavy stuff anymore.

I can relate to the 50 year old back Mines a head with a 1x12 Z cab. All the guys love the 2x12's but I simply get all the volume and tone needed in a 1x12 package. Plus Jgleaton stole my 2x12 away ;D The other 1x12 'ray combo is reviewed in H-C, and is loaded with a Fane 100w speaker, I think the guy ordered it that way...not sure how yours came about getting the 15w blue. I can imagine having some trouble getting a country vibe from the CAA, at least I think of it more in a bluesy sense maybe because of Scott Henderson. You should find the 'ray to be a superb country amp, plenty of complex clean headroom, spank for days, and not so dang bright! The tone & cut knobs are just plain BEAUTIFUL!

Doc has stated here that there would be no 1x12 'ray's?!?!?! Hmmmmm......RARE bird there bud.

A head and 112 cab was what I planned on getting... until the combo reared it's ugly head. I don't know if Chuck, Stu or who ordered mine with a C Blue. I may have to look at the new C Gold or maybe a 30/50W Bluedog.
Tha CAA had no Country vibe to my ears, but Channel 2 would flat make you mess your drawers... very nice indeed!
And if the SR takes pedals well, which I'm sure it will, I'll hopefully have Alabama to ZZ with Ozzy in between covered with honey.
I know!! Per an email to me a couple months back he said the same thing... Double RARE being a Sting and a 112!.... one of the reasons I jumped....

HERE IT BE... sweet... You know, every Stingray I've seen has a two color scheme. Given that, and Mike's statement that there will be no 112 version, I wonder if this isn't a Stingray in a Maz Jr. cab or something. This one is a puzzler!

That amp was originally ordered by Stu at Fat Sound, who sometimes seems to get some "off" items. Could be Stu ordered it that way...still wonder about the 15w speaker though?

You know , you would think by now I would know better. I knew not to sell that amp as it was, I do think I know a little bit about how to configure my designs.
But pressure from a dealer and I did, now I have to explain my self as if I'm getting cross examined .
A single Weber or the new Gold Celestion would be my choice .
The original owner put in a 100 watt FANE of his own, didn't like the sound , no "**** sherlock" sold it back to Stu and he put a single Blue in that sounds great but one must be very careful using a 15 watt speaker in the Stang.

I think the Dr gives good advice. I'd suggest replacing that speaker in the amp with what he suggests or some other high wattage speaker but keep that Blue for some other low wattage amps. Some years ago I read in a Dan Torres book about how he knew guys that used old Vox speakers for years in their Twin Reverbs and the speakers didn't blow but he may have been referring to the old Gold Bulldogs, and they may be something else so, NEVER MIND!

DR.Z If it's any consolation Doc, you stand up WELL under cross-examintation... but I'd say you WOULD HAVE to qualify as an EXPERT witness!! ;D Seriously, a 30 (or/ 50) watt Weber Blue Dog would be KILLER in that 1x12 Stingray combo... wouldn't have to worry bout blowin it and would sound great!! and for what it's worth... I LOVE one of a kind oddball stuff like that... Neat little combo! and way lighter than the 2x12! Jason

Hmmmmm Better get it and hear it first ;D Seriously, I just hope I like it and can use it live. If not, then I'll wait for an offer I can't refuse .... but it's way to early to know if it'll have more value... I'm just thankful for the weight issue. I will take extreme care of it. Already have a case ordered for it. Pads are great but the bottom of the amps seem to fall prey to nicks and dents with them. A case is heavier but a bit more protective... imho. Probably will go with a Celestion Gold as it is probably a tad closer to Doc's Blue voicing of the amp. Though I'm sure a Weber would be very close. The StingStang does have an serial effects loop??? Any comments on what you all use in it and how it sounds/works?? Thanks!

It doesn't really act like a parallel loop so I'd say it must be serial. I'm running my Yamaha SPX-2000 and my H&K Rotosphere II in the loop and they work GREAT!

Well, now that that's all cleared up Thanks for setting us straight, doc. So there is only ONE 1x12 combo, and a STING' to boot. You scored a "two fer" there, str8arrow!
