SR head and 2x12 Z-best cab (w/ Blues, of course) on order. Thanks to Mike Ayers (Fat Sound). Wife wasn't too thrilled at the price tag But this is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of purchase for me. I'm hoping that it lives up to all the hype. I've never played a SR at all. I'm buying this purely on the word of mouth and the magical memories of vintage Voxes I have been privileged to play (both pre and post TB). Favorite was vintage AC15-- great amp. I'm expecting this to be a decent upgrade over the Classic 100 and 1x12 EVM I've been playing for a few years (bought before I knew better and when I was really poor). After this, the "rig" will be: Zion Thinline Tele (rw board w/ Joe Bardens) or Zion Strat (maple board w/ Kinmans)-->fulltone Wah--> Fulltone SupaTrem--> Fish'n'Chips EQ--> TS9 RI-->Line6 delay modeler--> Mesa Rectifier Recording Pre--> Stangray--> Hot Plate--> Z-best 2x12 w/ Blues. I just can't forget the magical experience I had plugging all my SAME GEAR into a real Class A 30w EL84 Amp (AC30, Matchless, etc). I had always believed that my gear was capable of really great tones, but it always failed to deliver when I fired it up. Then I plugged into a REAL amp and felt the earth move under me. I found myself unable to stop playing-- 3, 4, 5 hours sometimes. I was just high (not like *that*). Alas, that week's gig ended (rented gear) and I was back to my lame-o Peavey. Excitement just doesn't say it:) Justin

Are they saying 6 to 8 weeks now? When I ordered my Stang Ray on 3/31 they were saying 10 to 12 weeks, and that was before Kurt passed which probably slowed it all down more.

If my FTP connection ever stops timing out, I have a blues clip ready that will give you one data point. Very cool amp - I'm totally in love with it. But my speakers aren't here yet, so I'm using a Weber Alnico California as a stop gap for recording...

I bought my 'Ray ears unheard....a small piece of advice, give the amp some time to really kick in....I know it sounds nuts, but I have never had an amp that "settled" in like the 'Ray. It sounded good right off the bat, and then it just started to get better...and better and better, and I found sweet spots all over the place.... You will not be dissappointed....

I play mostly lower gain blues. But I also play a latino-style lead that's heavily Santana- influenced (and Gipsy Kings). Hard to pull of this latter tone with fenderish axes, but my Hamer w/ p-90s gets pretty close.
The Z will have plenty of time to settle in, as this represent a one-shot deal for me.
I also bought mine ears unheard. The next nearest contender was a Boogie Lonestar Special, which is the most musical Boogie to be made since the Blue Angel was discontinued. It's sweet on the 5w setting.
But I realize that I'm just a simple guy. I've outgrown my need to tweak and tweak and have 6000 tones available on the fly (with varying effects for each, of course).
Mike at Fat Sound told me 8 weeks or so, but no one can really know for sure.
I suspect that Z and the gang may be extending lead times for other amp models to accomodate demand for the latest and greatest. Which, of course, is FINE WITH ME!!
An another note (sorry, bad pun unintended), you wouldn't believe the flak I caught for ditching the Fralins that came in my Zion strat. Having owned a set of Kinmans in a previous Strat (which I never should have sold), I was set on them. The Fralins were OK, but they hummed too much and didn't seem as sweet and musical as the Kinmans. Especially since the Strat has a maple board-- the Kinmans take the edge off of this in a very subtle way that preserves clarity but eases some of the edge.
My guitars are going to love this amp! They've been settling for 3rd rate for so long they won't know what to do with themselves!

For the Sanatana sound you'll just need some kind of pedal. Then you'll have it all!

The "pedal" I have is a Mesa Rectifier Recording Preamp.
I figure between the 6 modes of the Recording pre and the StangRay, I'll have about any tone my heart desires...
Heck, that Mesa Preamp can even pull off a JTM45-ish tone-- sorta:)
I'm under no delusions of the SR being hi-gain. One doesn't buy an amp like this expecting to do the scooped-mids teenage crap.
But I'll have enough gain to make a Marshall nervous:)

Mike and the gang at Fat Sound are wonderful.I have bought many things from them ,they have steared me in the right direction .
I bought my Rays from FS based on their decriptions and their experience with Dr.Z products.Ray is a fabulous amp. you're going to love it and a 2x12 Z best open back w/ blues is the best combo. to your Stingray/Stangray.That is what the good Dr. prescribed.
When I ordered mine,I waited about 8 weeks,it is while worth the wait. Just a suggestion while you are waitng for your Stangray, you might want to try Maz 38 sr and/ or Rx es.You can get awesome Santana sounds with good pedals. These are some amazing amps that I have played.

Some Karma for you getting two Stingrays. I almost didn't catch that. Congrats man, I am sure that is a 'toneful' duo or trio if you include you Maz38Sr.

Thanks, fellas.
Once I get reunited with my gear (I'm in the military and not home), I'll post a "rig pic" on that thread.
The quilted top on my Zion Tele is amazing. When people found out I got the guitar for $850 NEW, they think I gave myself a 5-finger discount.
Meanwhile, I'm stuck in FL with nothing but my Ovation CS to play:(
At least I have Legends Guitars nearby!

Thanks Aruntang,my first karma ever.Thank you for noticing, love those Rays.I did run all three at one time, two rays and maz 38 sr.The tone is out of this world.I am plan to run all 4, two rays, maz 38 sr. and Rx es as soon as I get another cab. That will blow away the roof and shatter a few windows but what the heck you only live once, right.
Once again, thank you for my first karma.

Once again, thank you for my first karma. dock66 Dock66.... I got yer second Karma if you'll try something for me... I noticed you have both a Stingray AND an RX ES.... would you ,when you get a chance... try running these 2 amps together ( they are out of phase with each other according to DR Z and Chad Weaver, brad paisleys guitar tech) So switch the phase on the RX and see what YA think.... ;D if you don't mind And I'll give ya some karma for the trouble but I think you'll LIKE the sound you'll hear.... ;D you can read more about it in the thread " Re: RX ES - The Most Under Rated Z" in the General board section and this is what I wrote re: that setup.... OK guy's... I gottta mention this again, AND Thank Chad again for sharing it with us.... IF ANY OF YOU have a Stingray and can get access to a RX ES or vice-versa.... you have GOT to try running those two TOGETHER!! It is otherworldly and HUGE sounding... I'm not just talking loud.... I'm talking huge, big bold, articulate... complex... clean and dirty all at the same time... it's like your playing one amp they blend so well and complement each other... The RX ES is OUT of Phase with the Stingray so you need to switch the phase reverse on an a/b box ( both my framptone and my radial have the phase reverse... and thats what I did) OR use a cord thats been reversed/ rewired backwards for the RX ES; like Chad suggested in the previous thread he mentioned this in, to correct the phase.... you can ALSO run the MAZ 38 and the RX ES together for a big sound too and it seemed that THEY were out of phase with each other too if I remember correctly... someone can try it and correct me if I'm wrong but it's been a while since I played that...seemed like the Ray and the Maz 38 were in phase together.... I'm just waiting for the NEXT outdoor gig to bust out the Stingray/ RX ES sonic assault.... Man; Arun, I wish you still had your RX ES to try this and give a report also... I think I've seen a couple of forum members with a RAY and maybe an RX ES... Maybe some others could try it out if possible and report back how they like it/ what they thought?? Thanks.... Jason

JGleaton--
Couldn't you just swap the pos and neg on the speaker terminals to change the phase 180°?

JGleaton-- Couldn't you just swap the pos and neg on the speaker terminals to change the phase 180°? jh Yes, I think you could do that on the terminals on one of cabs if it's an open back Ext. cab or a combo version where you can get to them easily... OR if it's a closed back cab your using and don't wanna have to go in it, you could do what Chad said he did with BP... and just swap the pos/neg on one end of the speaker cable you use for the RX ES... just mark it and remember which one it is that you use when you wanna run it like that so you don't use that cable except for that specific purpose... or you may already have an a/b pedal like I did, that can flip the ground on one...
