My roadie from the Earle tours, Brian Willis, loved the Z's as soon as I started using them (2001/2002?). He bought one for himself and has been turning pros onto them ever since. Last few years he's been tech-ing bands on the bro-country scene. I think they were at the shop picking this up for the steel guy in Fl/Ga Line. Brian's younger brother Brent also worked for me and bought Z's of his own. He's out there spreading the word too. When you are on the road equipment problems can turn into big problems. Dr Z? No problem ! I'd like to hear a steel through it. My immediate thought was that it would probably be good for pedal steel.

I might need to get one for Patty to play her bass through! My thought exactly. I'd love to hear a bass through this amp! It sounds pretty darn good. So does the KT45 with bass.

Lol...I know. i never heard the term before a few weeks ago in reference to Florida Georgia Line. I don't follow Country music closely so I didn't know this whole genre thing had it's own name!

So this is like a big Z28? ..........AWESOME! The Delta 88 is, in my opinion, the most misunderstood of all the Dr. Z amps for those who have not had the opportunity to play one. Since there were only something like 40 ever made they can be hard to find The only other amp in contention for that title might be the Mazerati GT, which is NOTHING like the Mazerati. The Delta might share a front-end design with the Z28, KT-45 and Route 66 but there's some really important differences. Most people who have not heard one think it must have the highest headroom before distortion due to the "88W" rating and KT88's. It's actually one of the dirtier amps in stock form. The amp shipped with a somewhat unusual plate-load resistor value and a low bias setting, which gives you some clean headroom which quickly but seamlessly morphs into crunchy overdrive. As with the Route 66 you sometimes wonder "is it distorting or not?". It just gets louder from there. In my opinion it's really not like the Z28 at all. The amp it's closest to in the Z lineup (and it's really close) is the "first generation" Route 66's (a.k.a. "Interstate 66") with the lower power supply filtering. It's actually got a softer attack more like those 66's...the Z28 is higher-filtered in the power supply relative to the Delta which gives it a little "harder" attack. The Delta really does sound like a HUGE "original" Route 66. The coolest thing about the Delta IMO is how linear the volume control is....it's incredibly linear from 1-10. It just REALLY likes to crunch thanks to the design choices I cited. It's extremely thick and fat all the way up the volume control, with an unbelievable bass response. I think it's second to my EZG-50 in that category. I don't know what this new Delta Doc cooked up sounds like. From what Doc said about the increased filtering this particular amp has a harder attack than the originals. We'll see what goes into production if he reissues it

I HOPE HOPE HOPE this thing could have an effects loop on it. I know I just ordered a Maz 38 but I'd go a bit more into the poorhouse to get a Delta 88 with a loop. It's the only amp in my recollection that I absolutely regret getting rid of. Tell me it can have an effects loop, doc. PLEASE.

Dang Steve, that was a great video you posted!!! My band used to do that tune, but it could have used a couple of 88 watt amps and some talent.

If this amp gets re-released I'm looking forward to hearing a good demo of it for sure.

If this amp gets re-released I'm looking forward to hearing a good demo of it for sure. The video that Benntop posted is pretty much what the amp sounded like. It will get a bit gainer and the new edition was puncher than the video. Doc is still tweaking though. It was amazing thru a Zbest too.

I'd be more interested in how it sounds with a Strat and Tele while doing some other styles of music. Somewhere out in YouTube land there's a ritchieray video of an 88 being played with a Tele doing country pickin and that sounds decent. So, looking forward to an official video to see what it can do.

Love it! (I've noticed the wheat grillcloth is making a resurgence lately on the newer amp models, too.)
I'm curious to hear more specifics on Doc's recent tweaks on the circuit, if any. Hard to imagine there's much room for improvement on an already great amp. It's already pretty much the "full-size black town car" of my amp collection--smooth yet powerful, effortlessly delivering its massive power in a very gentle manner.
