Nice looking 'ray, Greg! ;D Like you say, LOTS of potential tweaking possibilities. I've settled down to pretty much leaving the Cut at noon, and working the tone from 1:00 to 3:00. With the more dynamic & bright Kinman's, been hanging around 3:00 postition more lately.
Try a comp in the chain too, I've had many amps that rendered a comp useless, but the 'ray is magical with it...same case with OD's. Never had country tone nailed so well before. Rock and blues, oh yes...it'll do that well too!

One thing I think worth mentioning about the 'Ray is how "pleasant" it sounds to my ears, no fatigue at all. It's a very full and big sound, especially cranked, but never harsh or fatiguing. I love my Junior, but with its aggressive voicing I can't necessarily say the same about it, depending on the room, if its too loud it can be very fatiguing. Just an observation and just my initial impression.

My 38 has an edge that can be a little aggressive at times, also. Another reason I ordered a Stangray. Any time you notice anything to speak of please tell us.

Seriously though, if you have the opportunity (all hype and buzz aside), this really is a must have for any Z fan. I said it before, but its totally apparent that this is the Doc's brainchild of many years in the making, truly the pinnacle of his design. -Greg

Reading how Greg says the tone and cut are all that's needed for great toneshaping, I'm thinking that should be Zs update on the Carmen Ghia. Add a cut control. I think that's exactly what that little amp needs. I'm just daydreaming here.

That's essentially what it would be, a Stangray jr. I don't think that's in the works, though. Maybe, who knows what Z is thankin'.
