You guys really helped me pull the trigger. I asked about being able to pull some jazz tones out of it and ya'll tried it and told me it'll do the job. That sold me. I knew it could do any kind of pop, blues or country but I live in the jazz and jump blues music world mostly when I gig so when it was confirmed that it would get my tone, it was only a matter of time. They say it'll be 10 to 12 weeks!!!!! That's a different matter of time that I like less but good things come to those who wait.

Just curious, who did you order it from?

Mass Street music in Lawrence Kansas. About 40 miles from Kansas City where there are no dealers. Good guys. They also sell Xotic pedals, Tom Anderson guitars, Grosh guitars and lots of good high end flattops. Best store around here for good equipment.

I forgot to say what I ordered! I'll be getting a head and a 2-10 cabinet, matching blonde with gold/brown grillecloth. I wanted something small and light, easy to handle. I'll have to put it on a chair or something though. I love that 2-10 cab!

Congratulations Billy, should look real sweeeetttt and sound even sweetteerrr. I've thought long and hard about the head and 2x10 cab myself but have never heard any clips with this setup. I'm sure your going to be a very happy player when Mr UPS pulls up. When you get a chance, i would love to hear clip. Good Luck.

I was just curious, do you get to pick the color combo's you get or is it just tje first thing they get in?

Post by billyguitar on Mar 31, 2006 19:08:36 GMT -7
You can pick your colors out of what is offered. Blonde has been my favorite since I first saw a blonde Fender all those years ago. Also, I was told the effects loop is standard, not a $90 option. Yea Curt, I did it. I couldn't help myself. I'm glad I finally quit thinking about it and just did it.

billyguitar, you will love this amp...it can do what you want it to.....I just toyed around with my semi-hollow electric and got some real nice smoooooth tones....clear, clean and smoooooth.......can jangle it up really well, but it can do other things really well too.....simple layout that does complex things.....I am glad I got one of these while they were available.....#38 I do believe....FYI...came in from Humbucker music double boxed, no shipping, no tax...well done on their end...'cause its a heavy one....but a winner for sure...and mine says' StingRay who knows how many there are??? "the shadow knows, and he ain;t tellin'

I will say this, the fan sounds like a diesel at idle.....has to go...or be replaced with a quiter one.....as it is, i don;t think you could mic off this amp due to the fact of the fan noise....I think it may be due to the fact that it is horizontally mounted it falls in on itself....i have fans in my other amps that I have mounted and i mount them on a diagonal, seems to quiet them down..i may just get some larger brackets and bend them to the desired angle and try that....this problem is not really an amp problem...but it is annoying....on a side bar, played for about 8hrs yesterday.....and there was a point that you could actually hear the whole tone of the amp shift .... it sounded real good before , now it sounds unbelievable...don;t know what that was, don;t really care...no question about it, this amp has IT in spades!......now to quiet down that fan!.....great amp....getting better with each note....it has, for lack of a better word personality.....if there is one giant downside it is that it is so articulate that now what I thought was "clean" playing needs work!....it can make me sound great with a simple melody line, or horrible because my technique was sloppy, you can;t hide on this amp....it is a funny thing, what sounds mediocre on annother amp sounds like diamonds on this one....all those cheesy licks that never really filled or sounded right now are alive and sounding great....it is deceptively simple...and completly addictive!,,,Ooops,,,,time for a infusion now,,,,,,the Beatles were to me the influence that kicked me into the music thing.....and those sounds are alive big time in this amp.....some of the older Mavericks material really is worth doing with this amp,.....Cryin' Shame is kickA@@.....those chimin' G chords make you just want to keep playing them over and over they sound so good.....chords are the best sounding on any amp I have heard....really good..,,,amp can do some great Jazzy cleans,..Brian Seltzer sounds....I got the barber direct drive toned down and sounding great.....with this one, less is more....it is decptive in that what you hear is kind of not really what is going on, as you move away from the amp it changes .... what sounded kinda lost or spikey close to the amp, is now smooth and defined...and depending how you strum your guitar, it can be a kiss on the cheek or a slap in the face......IMHO, worth every penny and then some....

Hey, Fishman, Just so you know... my other guitar player (Shannon) has a 'RAY combo and I was worried about the fan on the combo too... but his is SUPER quiet... I was playing it REAL soft right beside the amp after he got it and I could never hear the fan... I had to stop playin and stick my head back there to see if it was even running and it was... ? His is mounted horizontally just like yours so , just to let you know, maybe it's just your fan? and a switch would fix?? also The blues REALLY need to break in and guaruntee you thats the shift in sound you heard... I think yours will KEEP sounding better too....Shannon's is sounding better and better every time we play... hope you get that Fan thing fixed... I don't think thats normal... Jason

Jason, I think it is a faulty fan as it sounds like bearings wearing on each other, or "out of round" sound, every revolution it kind of rubs...hard to describe, however I am not sweating that...its an easy fix even if I have toreplace the whole thing...I added one on my MAZ from the Shack and its super quiet...I may just grab annother and pop it in there...like I said, easy fix....

Even though I just got the 6545 and I'm really digging it, everything said here about the StangRay tells me I HAVE to have one, but it's just out of the question at the moment. DRAT! So many amps, so little time! Maybe later this year or early next year - Yeah, I already have some good writeoffs for this year's taxes - that's the ticket!

Congrats, billyguitar! I know you'll be pleased when yours arrives.
My Maz 38 is blonde with brown grille cloth and I think it's the most beautiful amp I've ever seen. It's the 2x10 combo and I love the sparkle that those 10s put in the mix. I'm sure you'll let us know when it comes. Until then, I guess you'll be sweatting it out like everybody who isn't fortunate enough to grab one at their dealer's shop. It'll be worth the wait to have been able to get your color scheme.

benttop: I know about the dough situation. I've got a bunch of other things that need to be done right now, let alone pay for this when it shows up. Worst case I'll use my line of credit on my house. 7% simple interest is only a little over a 1/2% per month on the balance. Almost free! Propellr: I do like my amps blonde. Women I'll take any way I can get 'em!

Propellr, you know I was kidding right? I emailed DR Z last week. Brent wrote me back this morning. He said My Z will be a Stang Ray. He spelled it with two words. He said there will be no Mantarays. Now I wait!

Before the unpleasantness they were saying 10 to 12 weeks. Then Z's note said times may slip. In other words I have no idea!

Thanks. It will take me probably twice that long to save up for it... so mine is probably at least six months out.

I usually wait until I have the cash but I'm going to run out of cash so I'll either cash out some life insurance, which I don't need 'cause I'm single now and no kids, or use the line of credit on my house. My logic is I know I want it and I'll have it sooner or later so it might as well be sooner. I'm also not tempted by any other amps. My Maz 38 Sr, Carmen Ghia, the Stang Ray and all my vintage amps will satisfy me amp-wise for the rest of my days. The problem is right now I'm also buying a Korg D3200 recorder, complete brakes for my old VW, water main for the house, siding, bathroom remodel, yada, yada, yada. It goes on forever!
