Hi Fellas-- new guy here.
I've been wanting...correction, NEEDING a new amp for eons lately.
In the quest for such an amp, you first have to answer the question of "what kind of player am I, and what tone do I want?"
Well, I've decided that I'm a low-wattage bluesy rock kinda guy that just happens like love Santana's tone (his Mesa tone is better than his Marshall tone, imo).
I've listened to every Z clip I can find, and the Stingray-turned-nameless is *the* sound I hear in my head. I love the AC15 tone, and the newer VOXes just don't sound the same to my ears. Even the AC30s with greenbacks to me sound worse than the older ones with Alnico Blues.
So, where to find this mysterious amp? The closest dealer to me is Wildwood in CO, and they don't seem to be big Z fans, or maybe just sort of frustrated at lack of product availablility. NO joke.
I play a pair of Zion customs (good guitars if you've never heard of them). One is a tele w. Joe Bardens (very hot and clear). The other is a Strat style with Chris Kinman pickups (I *love* Kinman pickups!).
I also have a Hamer Special w/ P-90s that just collects dust. I'm gonna try and revive it w/ some Tonepros help and maybe a Buzz Feiten.
Thanks.
Justin Hohn

Order one from Fat Sound Guitars in Raleigh NC. They know and love the product, and you pay no tax if you live outside of NC.

Willcutt is a good outfit to deal with as well as Mass Street Music. I used to have a Zion...great guitar. How is Ken Hoover doing these days? I haven't seen him since I visited his shop about 7 years ago.

Hohn Wilcutt had a combo with Blues in stock the last I looked. Re your Hamer Special: Hamer incorporates a compensated scale in all their guitars, similar to the Feiten system, so i wouldn't bother with that. Tone Pros is a good idea and maybe a pickup swap. The bridge pup is usually a hot ceramis Duncan. ArnieZ

I think Willcutt sold the combo. They are great to deal with though, as is Fat Sound. If you like Vox tones at all, the 'Ray will floor you.

Hi Combo800, under everyones name you can there is an exalt or smite button. With these you can give or take away karma. I have never smited anyone and I hope I never have too. You can however give Karma especially when someone has been helpful in someway or just to show your appreciation, or just to say welcome to the forum!

Combo800, Welcome to the forum... welcome to Z amps and specifically welcome to the STINGRAY club... kind of an elite club we got there... ;D INSTANT Karma from me for a Stingray!!.... wonderful amp... Yours is exactly what I would have ordered if I had gotten a chance to order one and had gotten the combo version...beautiful.. ( I also Like Madisons... Black and Tan or/ wheat is my favorite combination...) although I Like mine cause it's different than my other black and wheat stuff... and I prefer the Head/ cab's... Jason

Thanks for the welcome, Jason. Although I'm sure the tone will surpass the stylish cosmetics, I, too, really like the color scheme on the amp I'm getting. Just sort of "dumb luck," really. I mean... it's simply what they (Mass Street Music) had in stock! Even if I had the choice, I doubt I would've ordered it differently. I e-mailed them after seeing aruntang's post, but figured it would be long gone. As luck would have it, they e-mailed me back that it was still available. So, heck... what's a guy with a healthy tax refund supposed to do, but join the club! The STINGRAY club, that is...

Beat me to it, I emailed to and he said it was still in stock but your phone conversation must have taken place afterwards. Congrats! What color scheme IS that anyway?

Thanks for the "congrats," Slim. When I called, the salesman said he had received several inquiries, via e-mail; and he responded to all of them this morning. I guess I was just the first one to call him and order it...? Going by the photo, I'm assuming it's a Black cab with a Blonde front.

Hey Andrew, did the Stingray arrive yet? Yes, and no. "Yes," Mr. FedEx driver went by my house today... but "No," I wasn't there to sign for it. Hopefully tomorrow... or maybe I can go by the FedEx place after work and pick it up. Looking at the tracking info... I see that the shipment is 78 pounds. 78 pounds??? Oy!!! I hope some of that is from the "packing," protecting the amp...

I bet it's at least 70 pounds. My Maz 38 1-12 combo is 60 pounds.

Hey Andrew, did the Stingray arrive yet? OK, I've got it! I went and fetched it from the FedEx place during my lunch break... then dropped it off at the house. I only took a few moments with it, just to make sure it survived its travels... sounds pretty darned good, so far. And, yes... although I didn't "weigh" it, it certainly IS in 70-pound territory.

Awesome Andrew! Glad it showed up in good shape. I always nervous when amps are shipped. Give us more of a rundown on the sound after you have had some time with it. Great way to join the Z family.

I just bought a StingRay from Humbucker music, I am not sure if they have any more, but it may be worth a call. I also got my MAZ38 from them, no tax, free shipping...excellent service...ask for Jake, he is the owner...nice guy to deal with, good outfit from where I am sitting...they were the only ones that had a MAZ NR 1-12 which is what I wanted.....these amps are not the easiest to find thats for sure!
