Has anyone done this? Any risk of damaging the amp by doing this? I love the tone of the amp but sometimes I find myself wishing it was a little "stiffer" or less spongy and my understanding is that SS rectifiers will do this to a certain extent. Any opinions?

Forum member Benttop installed a (Weber?) SS rectifier in his 'ray years ago. He said you could hardly tell the difference.
There should be no damage installing a SS rec on the Doc's 4 X EL84 amps. But he says don't do it for his 2 X EL84 amps.

I believe the Weber SS recs, aka Copper Caps, are not just a SS rec. They also have inrush current limiting and voltage drop characteristics that emulate their tube counterparts. I grabbed a few for backups but I wouldn't be afraid to use them permanently.

I did it with the Weber's. Sounded good. A little stiffer than the tube rec but not much. I didn't notice any change in tone.

I tried a Weber copper cap in my Mazerati and Stangray.
As mentioned above, it was a little stiffer and I also noticed it being a little brighter, especially in the Mazerati. It also seemed to add just a little bit of headroom on my Mazerati. I really couldn't tell much difference on the Ray though.
I still have the copper cap in my gig-box, but it's just a backup now... I like the "feel" of a tube better.
