a second Zendrive AND a new babe on the avatar...... Myles gets another Karma point! I have one of the Tube Zendrives on order too and will be doing a lot of experimentation with Alf who is Mr. Zendrive on tube selection.

The MAZ 38 used to have an "Invasion" model... The Carmen Ghia used to be known as MAZ 15.
So just resurrect the Invasion name for the Stingray. That's easy enough. Good idea.

Madison, Aw, man... a 12GH30? I don't know if you saw my thread elsewhere under "Stingray", but I've tried mine with my ZBest (which has one 12GH30 and a V30) and my Z 2X10. I believe that for the 'Ray to be at it's best it must be played through the Blues. The ZBest, as great as it is, seems to homogenize the sound and make it sound sort of like a Ghia on steroids (I also play the Ghia through the ZBest). The Stingray just comes alive through the open back 2X12 with Blues and fills the room with harmonics. I'll bet it sounds great with the Webers in an open back cab, too. I haven't heard the Blue/Silver Weber combo, but I think they are not as bright as the Celestions from what I've heard. However, the Cut control on the Stingray has so much range that you could get equal chime out of them if you wanted to. I just have to barely turn up my cut control; it's like on "2". Of course, this is all just my opinion. I know there are guys that don't like Celestion Blues, even in an AC/30 (J Chance!).

Seriously, I like blues in certain applications. I just don't like how they hold up at high volumes (for at least semi-clean sounds.) For recording or general purpose, they certainly have their place. Maybe next time I do a fly date and end up with an AC30, I should ask for 2 because I need it LOOUUDD!! LOL Now two AC30's with blues might be ok... Two Stingrays with blues, probably out of this world... JC

Hey, It would be really cool if there was another language in which " Stingray" would be a different, slightly different word but cool and still written in cursive...? ( anybody know how to write "Stingray" in say.....kasblankastan-ish) .....or maybe it's just one of those words thats just the same in most any language?? ORthe " Stevie- Ray" ;D ORIn keeping with the spell correction on this forum....and in Honor of Music man..... they can kiss my.... " THINGY-RAY" ;D ;D ;D or the the " MCKMA-RAY" think about it Sorry lefty..... little crude, maybe I shoulda put that in the Z-lounge...... but one of the wise gentlemen on this forum once wrote... better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission! and I'm just joking, not trying to bash musicman or anything, they can't help it, they 're just being a corporation!

ah corporate crap.....how much money are they going to make by making the Doc change a name? This is a post from the 'Hey Doc, what about a Cadillac?' thread....some good names in there actually. ----------------------- Hey how about a drawing between forum members for the privilege of naming (or influencing the name of) a Z amp? Heck could even choose a forum member's screen name.....(here's a red head for ya Tas...) Amp for tasPersonally I think "Zac" would be a great name for an amp...already has a "Z" in it! ~boj

STANGRAY, Z-STANG, or simply STANG, in keeping with the car name theme (or wild horses).
Edit to add, STANG 30. That way we could have a STANG 15 one day. ;D

Hey how about a Beatles reference since Doc was shooting for that chime..... -Revolution -Revolver -1964 (I like this one) -Arthur (only a Beatles freak would know this obscure reference)
Any thoughts?

Nothing says British like the original Bond car the Astin Martin DB 5,but I guess you could make an arguement for Jaguar too,XK,XKE.Lets not forget the Vette connection,Mako,Mako Shark, although I guess the car angle is what most people people identify with Dr Z Amps. The Good Doctor builds such Great amplifiers of which I own several, that at the end of the day, when the smoke clears whatever the amp ends up being called it will be another great amp.....PS...Please don't call it a Vega or Pinto....Ha Ha Ha.....S

AZ-30 takes it for me!

Seriously, AZ-30 is definitely the best I've heard yet too...... Might be cool to use AZ-30 in a logo on the front that is designed similar to the corvette logo..... since AZ-30 has no relation to the corvette.... I would think it would be OK to use that in conjunction with a very similar corvette style logo...

Carrera
Viper
Cobra
Diablo
Phantom
Firedome
I like Viper the best...

Actually a british boutique amp builder called cornford already has an amp called the carrera, and since the z is a "boutique" amp as well it would cause confusion i'm guessing.

Jchance, I see what you're saying, and I agree. That's why Brad runs a RxES and a 'Ray at the same time: the great lows from the RxES compliment the chime from the 'Ray perfectly. When I tried the 'Ray through my ZBest it definitely filled in the low end, but at the expense of some of the chime. I think the Blues do have a lot to do with the Vox's reputation as being not as solid in the low end as some other amps. Maybe two Stingrays; one through a Zbest and one through an open back with Blues?

Why not SR-30? That way you can keep the Vox reference AND the Stingray reference.

Let's see what Brad says. he's got a great sense of humor too.

Why not SR-30? That way you can keep the Vox reference AND the Stingray reference. I think Lefty is on to something... How about the "SRZ -30" & it would have all those elements + it would have a connection to the SRZ-65!

I like AZ-30... but the only thing is if you are conversing with someone and you say for example... "I play my strat through an AZ-30"....most people will think you just said "AC-30" because it sounds so similar. How about just calling it a Z-30? It still sounds classy and to the point.... and the name keeps in line with other models like the Z-28 (??)

Doc could just keep changing the name to names that are already taken.... 1st call it the "super", build a few amps until Fender calls....... then change it to the "plexi" until Marshall calls... then change it to the "top boost" until vox calls.... ;D I'm just kidding of course..... hold on the phone is ringing... Fenders general counsel just called ME is now telling me that I've got to cease this post...... they want me to delete it.... is there a LAWYER in the forum....

I like the names suggested above that "imply" the Stingray name- like SR-30, or SRZ-30.
Although, I can also see where non Z-forum potential buyers could think somehow that "SR" implies "Super Reverb" or somehow think that SRZ-30 is related in design to the SRZ-65.
