Years ago I bought a Route 66 with a Celestion G12H30 speaker and a Ghia with a Blue. Always played them with that setup and about equally. One day I hooked up the Route 66 to the Blue and the sound totally blew me away. If I play loud, I use a Y cord, but I have to tell you that for home and practice, the Route, turned up a bit, with the AirBrake on 4 thru the Blue really sounds good. Not playing the Ghia as much, which I thought would never happen. Anyone else tried this? Thoughts.

I loved the Blue with a RT 66, but it would last long. Now Celestion has released the Creamback Alnico which sound very close the Blue but handles 95 watts. IMHO the Celestion Gold at 50 watts has it's own tone , not the same as the Blue.

I hear you Doc. I am really careful with the volume. The next Z Head that I buy, will have a Creamback Alnico underneath it. Thanks.

I tried my Route 66 into a cabinet with a blue and G12H (both 16 ohm running in parallel). To be safe I used the Brakelite. I have to say it's as good a sound as I've had out of the R66. And definitely different to my golds.

Howdy,
The only Dr.Z amp I own is the outstanding Carmen Ghia, but this thread is killing me! One day, one DAY, I'm going to plug my Les Paul Special (tuned to open G) into a Route 66 and riff away!
