Hi guys.
I know amp choice is very subjective but any comments or advice is appreciated. I've been trying to educate myself on amps the last year or so after getting back into playing. I have a Gibson R7 and an ES335. My taste are blues rock (Cream, Free, ZZ top). I started with a Marshall 1974X but found it too brittle and trebly sounding. Even with the tone knob on the amp all the way down, I still wasn't happy. I then joined the Z camp and bought a Maz 18 NR. I found it to have the same characteristics for my taste. After trying to learn, I realize now that they both have EL84 power tubes. So I bought a Fender Vibrolux reissue with the 6L6 tubes. With the right pedal I can get a decent tone, but the tubes rattle like crazy and it being a pcb seems to bug me. So, I talked myself into a Z28 head and 1x12 cab. I thought the 6v6 tubes would be creamy and the wattage would allow me to get some natural breakup. I know they say it is "American voiced" and can really show your flaws, but I was convinced I would buy one. Now, I've learned that the Remedy has a half power switch. Originally I passed over it because 40 watts was too much. But now that I know this, I'm leaning in that direction. The idea of a plexi type amp with 6v6 tubes is possibly what I've been searching for. Am I on the right track? I want it to be the last amp I buy for a long time. I just don't want that brittle tone the EL84 tubes seem to be giving me. I'm learning every day and sorry this post is so long!!
Erik

Keep in mind that the newer Remedy also comes with an awesome master volume. The Remedy is a very cool amp and will give you some great cunch. I can still remember Traci Guns at Zfest a few back with a cranked Remedy and a Les Paul totally smoking it on stage. I am not sure I would call this amp creamy though. It's a great overdrive and has awesome sustain but not sure it's creamy. Creamy OD might be more in line with the Therapy. My 2 cents Todd

How about a Route 66 and a Brake Lite for when needed? The Route is "milkshake thick" and totally not brittle. An Antidote (with Air Brake) might also be up your alley.

I am not sure I would call this amp creamy though. My 2 cents Todd +1000 on this. Even though Doc has slipped the 6V6s in there, it's still a plexi at heart. The circuit is more important to the sound than the tubes in many cases.

Cream, Free, ZZ Top? Get yourself a Remedy.
I too don't care for the sound of el84s with humbuckers. I prefer big bottles. Master volume, 1/2 power switch, great plexi based tone...what's not to like?
And if you go this route, do yourself a favor and match it up with greenbacks, or greenback flavored speakers. They are meant for each other if you want to play classic rock. I prefer the 1x12 Creamback M.

I'm with John - sounds like the Rem is the right amp for your taste in music. The half power switch and MV are wonderful and the amp can do, I think, many things well. It's just a great amp.

Can't disagree with the statements above but consider an Antidote as well I hear fender, Marshall and Vox with the dote and has some mean big KT 66 tubes
