How's the flat response for pedals at clean levels? Does it take on the sound of the pedal or does it retain it's own character pretty much?

Hey , welcome to the forum! IMHO the 8 takes pedals really well . My boost/OD pedals sound & feel very "organic" through it - the amp basically retains it's own character while blending in the pedals nicely.

That's one of the great things about Zs - they all take pedals and still sound like Zs. If you want a really transparent boost try a Flying Dragon.

My Maz 8 loves the Flying Dragon and the Tim or Timmy I put in front of it - no tonal alterations at all. Not quite so much my Rockett Animal & Flex Drive, but I think it's the build/components of the pedal. All of them sound great with my 6V6 amps though.

I use mine at church with a bunch of pedals for contemporary Christian music. All sound great, even multiple pedals at once.

It depends on how you set the amp. The more clean headroom you leave, the more the pedal's character will come through. If you set it to break up early, it'll blend. If your MAZ is dirty without pedals, the pedals will just make it dirtier but they won't really come through with their own sound that much, in my experience.

I generally use the lo input if I'm running pedals. If I'm using just a clean boost I might go into hi, depending on the guitar and music. Also, I usually set up a MAZ for pedals so that it will be slightly breaking up when my guitar's volume is full on without any pedal engaged.
