Hey team!
I am looking for taper mod for my Ernie Ball VP JR pedal and not really having any luck. Any suggestions out there? It appears that Analogman used to do them (I can't find anything that says that he still does...his site is convoluted to me though). Why did I buy this thing in the first place if I don't like the way it functions?...decent question. I got it forever ago, before I knew what I liked, but I've never really been a fan of it's "sweep". It really only seems to engage around the halfway mark and then makes a rapid climb to full volume.
I was planning on having a buffer mod (tone suck mod) done because I actually really like having a tuner out function and would like to find someone that would do a taper/sweep (not sure what to call it) mod.
I'm not opposed to a whole different pedal either. However, I don't have a lot of disposable cash due to a move that is happening, so I would like to keep it as budget as possible. I really like the aesthetics and good reviews of the Mission Engineering VM-PRO...it's just more than I am really wanting to spend right now. Any thoughts on it?
Thanks!

I would definitely email him and ask. He probably still does them. His site is an absolute nightmare to navigate. But here is a link to one of his order forms. Also I've heard great things about the thru-tone mod. he upgrades pretty much everything including the pot which should create a much better taper.

Sorry, Justin at Thru-tone isn't modding pedals anymore. Only selling them new with the mod included. I guess he's really backed up. Woops.

All good, I appreciate the info non the less. I'm going to email Analogman and see what he has to say. I believe I'll try T1M as well. I really like the Mission pedal except for having to use their cable out to the tuner. I'm not sure that it would work with my placement...and I am kind of particular about the pedalboard aesthetics...that cable wouldn't fit in with the rest of my set up. (petty, I know!)

I'm pretty sure JHS still does mods on Ernie Ball volume pedals.

Dan (this1smyne) is a good guy and friends with many of us on the forum. He does great work.

If you're mostly interested in the taper change you could just change the pot yourself. It's just a couple of solder joints. I'm sure you could find a premade buffer to put between the input/outputs too.

I'm pretty sure JHS still does mods on Ernie Ball volume pedals. JHS does mod the VPJr, but I think their mod only fixes the tuner out and adds a buffer, I don't think they address the taper. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

So far, I believe that you are correct daveyk, JHS only seems to do the tuner out/buffer mod. I have emailed to ask about the taper. I'm also going to email this1smyne to see if it might be something that they do.
I would love to be able to dive in and figure it all out/do it myself. That is typically my M.O. However, I'm in middle of a move across states and a move to a totally different job. I've found that when I want do something, I dive in head first. I tend to have a million things going on and right now I have to focus (really have a hard time doing that!) on my new job. Unless there is an obvious how to video and a list of parts, I know that I would spend a week researching and then have to get the parts and then do the job. Wish I had the time!

Isn't there a switch on that pedal that changes the taper?

Isn't there a switch on that pedal that changes the taper? I was just thinking about this yesterday and was about to post about that. I remembered I had to flip the switch on mine because I had the same complaint about it not doing anything till halfway through the taper. Flipped the switch and had full range of motion in the swell.

Thanks guys! I actually remember messing with that "little switch inside" when I first got the pedal. Back then, I set it up to the more gradual setting (of course that was years ago)...I may check on that again though.
I emailed JHS and they said "Thanks for the email. Unfortunately, we do not offer any type of sweep adjustment. That would require a different potentiometer, and we are limited to the direct EB replacement pots. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks"
This1sMyne said "hey man! the pot is audio taper, MOST pedals use the same pot. the JR has an internal sweep switch which helps some. i personally use the 500k stereo version because it has the linear pot on it" I'm not sure what to make of this...does that mean he can or can't do a taper mod? Or, does it simply mean, get another pedal...
Analogman said "Sure thing! Choose the buffer mod for $75 and write a note that you want the taper mod too (no extra charge). For the mods or repairs, Also add in S & H which is listed on the repairs form. One S & H charge will cover multiple pedals." Along with a bunch of info on how to pay.
Looks like I'll probably go with Analogman...was hoping it would be a bit cheaper...oh well.
Just wanted to update y'all incase there is someone else like me out there.
