I love the sound of this amp, but I'm still looking for it to sound more Fendery. Right now I've got a Weber 12F150 in it, and I keep the mid knob all the way down but I still would like to go even further into scooped mid territory. I've got JJ in V1, stock NOS in v2, JJ v3, stock NOS v4, Groove Tube 6L6's and JJ rectifier.
The amp gets about an hour of use every day so my concern is that I'm going to go through tubes very quickly and the NOS are a lot of $$.
Should I go all NOS tubes or will I go through them too fast? (I don't want to have to change tubes every year.)
Thanks

Maybe try an equalizer first and see if you can tweak it that way. Also, maybe try one of Eminence's or WGS's "American-voiced" replacement speakers and see if that doesn't help.

Also, I have a Wampler Tweed 57 pedal I like to use with my Maz 38 for Fendery clean/semi- clean tones. Might even work better with your EZG. IMO

Agree with the above. You can do more to change the sound of the amp with a speaker change and/or the EQ than with tube changes.

The speaker that I originally used was g12h30 which made the amp sound more like a vox than a fender. The Weber is American voiced

EZGbiscuit's right, I'd start with an EQ pedal perhaps.
That 12F150 is an excellent speaker, and already fairly mid-scooped; I can't think of any "American" speaker that would scoop the mids much more (maybe the Emi. Swamp Thang, but it's LOUD). Also, while an NOS tube in V1 is all I'd recommend changing, I wouldn't expect any tube swap to radically alter the overall EQ response curve of the amp. So, hence trying the EQ pedal first.

Well my neighbor also has an EZG. His with all NOS has a much more scooped midrange which we both agree on. So I know I want the NOS but, if I play the amp an hour a day, how quickly will I burn through them?

before you do anything else...
put a NOS 5751 in V1.
no re-biasing necessary. Then play a little Hendrix /little wing -SRV lenny/ Rivera Paradise clean pretty style and see if that don't get you pretty dang Fendery with stock tubes and speaker you already have.
This ONE 5751 into V1 change nailed that fender sound for mine and the rest of the stock tubes were fine.
oh, and a NOS 5751 will outlast any new production tube...
only other change I would try is maybe a really good NOS tube rectifier (and would need to re-bias with that change)
Depending on the NOS Rectifier you go with (can buy one from a tube supplier who may help you pick one out), you may want one to get more sag, or a LOT more clean headroom... and anything in between. The NOS Retifier should last even longer than the 5751 unless you run into some bad power somewhere (so you may want a back up).

Yo neighbor. I've got a 5751 ge if you wanna try. Also, nos tubes are seemingly expensive, but 1. They last 4 times as long as jjs. Do the math...they're cheaper in the long run. 2. I've got a great supplier for anos tubes which saves you a whole lot if money. Anos tubes are great and just as good as nos, if they are properly tested as new from a reliable source. Part of the classic fender sound is nos tubes (RCA, ge etc). V1 is the most impt of the preamp tubes but power tubes and rectifier are extremely impt. You can get a great pair of anos ge 6l6s for $90. Well worth it. An anos tungsol ax7 for $20, anos RCA ax7 or 7025 for $50, Mullard 5ar4 rectifier $105 anos. Well worth the tone. These tubes last forever

If you plan on keeping the amp for many years NOS would be a good investment. Not worth it if you end up selling the amp in a year or

Hey guys. I'm surprised there is not more activity on this newsgroup for this amazing amp. I've been running a NOS RCA 7025 AX7 tube in V1 for a qhile and have been very pleased. But Jason's post intrigued me so I tried out a NOS GE 5751 tube in V1 for comparison. I noticed the 5751 removed some gain where you had to increase the post volume to equal where I was with the RCA tube. Cleaner note articulation with the 5751 at the same settings and maybe a 20-30% reduction in gain. I personally like a little more breakup so I'm sticking with the RCA tube but the 5751 tube is way more cost effective so if you are in the hunt for a NOS tube for V1 this is a great tube to use at a lower cost. I found that you can get really really close to the same sound with either tube by adjusting the amp settings but both give you that wonderful Super Reverb type sound....but better in my humble opinion. Great amp. I'm running mine through a 4x10 with Weber Neomag 10" speakers or a 1x12 with an EVM12L.
