Awesome, just awesome. Pro quality open blues jam at a bar that holds @100. 2 guitars, harp, drums, bass. Last time I took it there I dimed it to 3-3-3 and it was just way too loud, but didn't have a pedal so would up playing cleanish all night. This time, I set it to 11-10-10 and brought a pedal, a Fulltone OCDv4 set at level-2 oclock, tone and drive at 11:30, in LP mode. With my G&L ASAT Special.
MAN! That's the settings! Clean with easy pickhand, slight overdrive when you really lay into it, then overdrive and sustain out the wazoo with the pedal on. Loud but not too loud; easily controlled with the guitar volume knob. I'm rethinking everything now. I got this big pedal board with 5 flavors of dirt and while it has multiple additional tones and flavors, for a simple clean/dirty rig, the Z28+OCD is all I'd need. In LP mode, that pedal just meshes with the amp wonderfully. Not muddy or overly mid heavy. Kinda nails the 3-3-3 drive without the air movement and with a bit less low end. As far as clean headroom, it was nice to know I could dial up a little more, but at say 12-12-12 I'd have been overpowering the other guys. The other guitar player was running an Ibanez 335 copy with humbuckers, a homemade TS type pedal and a Marshall 18 watt, cranked, and his lead tone, while great didn't cut thru or stand out like mine did, and he's as good if not better of a player than I am. Happy camper here!

Such a great amp! I lived in 11-10-10 for a couple years when I had one.

I put my CS336 through a Fulldrive3 and into my Z28 1x10 combo w/ gold set v11 t9 b9 guitar v7 t7, and I'm good to go for variety-type jobs (like tomorrow night, for example).

Here's another clip, this time no pedal. Just the Z28 at 11-10-10, neck pickup of the ASAT Special. FYI, my amp is a 2x10" combo with Z speakers, Tungsol RI 6V6s, and a 5751. The Z 28 really IS a GREAT blues amp! Most Z's seem to catch the rock label or the country label. When most folks envision "blues amp," they're thinking a Tweed, Brown or BF Fender, an old Marshall combo, or one of the boutique interpretations of those. And while it can be said that blues can be played on ANY amp, I think the just Z28 excels at it. In my 20+ years of playing, only my(sold) 1965 Fender Tremolux was even in the same league as the Z28 in terms of blues tone. Anyhow, enjoy

Nice! Sounds like a blues jam, all right! The OCD V4 is a highly under-rated pedal, for my money. Great pedal for Tele blues/rock--I think people kind of forget about them because they've been around so long and there are so many of them floating around. I wouldn't be without one, though.

Like I said, cheap recorder, on a bar table, and I'm a hack;-) The sound and stage volume as well as the players are actually all good; its just hard to get a good recording the way I do it. At least there's no one having a conversation in the background on these two. Like usual!
Totally agree on the OCD. I had one years ago, sold it, rebuilt my pedal board without one. For dirt on it, I have a Fulltone Fat Boost 3, an old Fulldrive 2, an Xotic SL Drive, and a EQD Hoof Reaper(Big Muff and Tone Bender in 1). I was looking for a single overdrive to use with my other amp(old Roland Blues Cube 30) as its dirt and that I could also use with the Z28 when I didn't want to haul the big board out and the OCD is perfect. On LP mode. I can't say I love it in HP mode.

I think that came out wrong. It sounds good! I love a good blues jam, and unfortunately there aren't any nearby anymore. The closest one--about 30 miles away in Durand, WI, shut down a couple of years ago, and I've been jonesing ever since. They do have a distinct sound, though--the rough edges are what makes them interesting--and Sweet Home Chicago is pretty much the quintessential blues jam song. What I meant was, it sounds like a blues jam is supposed to sound. And your recording is fine.

Great tone. Love the Asat Special. Took mine out to a blues Jann last night I had been neglecting it for a while. I think it's going to see more action in the next several weeks. Great tone on those clips. Reminded me at first take of the EC / Mayall Beano tone.

Man, that is some really great tone...especially for a blues jam...and especially for an H2N on the table.... Love the mids in the 28....Sounds like you found "YOUR" sound!!! DIG!!!
