I read on TGP about pulling output tubes to lower headroom (I also found that my favorite way to "lose" wattage is to use fewer tubes, so I know I prefer 4x6v6 or 4xel84 amps).
Anyone done this? Would the Sr become a kind of Jr by doing this? And, which tubes should you remove? I sometimes took out the outer two 6L6's from my Twin back in the day.

You can't do that with a cathode biased amp like the Maz. It will work on fixed biased four tube amps like a twin or 100 watt marshall. You'll screw up your amp doing it on a 38.

Get an Airbrake (or Brakelite). It makes the Sr more versatile in that it will reach that point of just-breaking-up at lower volume. I've used one for years now, and wouldn't be without it.

Why not plug into the lo input--this drops the volume a bit.

The brake lite is a necessity for the 38.
