Hope I'm not overstaying my welcome here in the sound room by posting too much . Anyhow, the wife left me alone this afternoon so I could CRANK the Galaxie...and CRANK I did, jeez this thing is loud! Tele straight in, bridge pickup, channel two volume at 3:00, verb and delay added at board. Into a single Weber 50w alnico blue dog. Rockin' the Gal

Thanks! Awesome....... That's really the 1st good channel 2 sound clip out there............I think that clip alone will be responsible for a lot of GAS. You shouldn't feel guilty though

Ya know Steve, I really don't know...today was the first time I was able to let it loose, and now the 'all quiet!' police are in the house. ;D When I get an opportunity I'll try rolling back on channel 2 , see if it cleans up, and report back. I normally run guitar volume at 8 (as this clip was done), so it's already rolled back some.
Thanks for listening and your comments, Stan and James!

Now that's what I'm talking about.......
There's some nice mean rock tone from that tele Bill.
I built the first channel to follow a nice Tweed crunchy clean, but channel two is a can of whop arse.
A Weber Alnico huh, pretty nice.
Again thanks as always for taking the time and sharing the goods.

I can only imagine what 'bucker's would do with this amp...but I only own single coil geetars. soooo.... !

Nice work Bill. I've really fallen for the Galaxie on channel 2 with my Tele as well. Like you said, I can only imagine what this thing would sound like with humbuckers (I only play single coils too). Oh and Steve, as for your question about how channel 2 cleans up with the guitar volume, I will say that after spending some time playing around with this channel, it is actually very responsive to your guitar's settings for such a hot channel. It won't give you all the way clean if that's what you're looking for, but it does give a stellar blues tone with a little hair on the notes with the guitar turned down to about 5 or lower. It's pretty impressive actually considering how much gain is there with the volume turned up. Rolling the volume up to the 7-8 range brings on the grind, and cranking the guitar to 10 is super fluid lead tones. I wasn't expecting to have this much control over this channel when I ordered the amp. I figured I would use channel one for all my clean to slightly hairy stuff, then hit the second channel for the leads. I was suprised to find just how many sounds are in the second channel, so to me it's like icing on the cake. Super cool amp. You gotta get one.

I use my guitar's volume control constantly as I play, so this is always an interesting point for any amp I try. They all seem to be a little different in this regard, so that's why I asked. Hmmm.... gotta try this myself. My short time with the prototype Galaxie wasn't nearly enough time to get to all the cool stuff. It's only money I don't have in hand, is all... ;D

Nice playing and nice sound. However, I think this has actually relieved me of GAS. I like my overdriven Route 66 better. Whew.

I hear ya Steve, I really had to work on convincing my wife that I "needed" this amp. I'm glad she agreed because it's a really sweet sounding amp. It's a pretty huge departure in tone compared to other Z amps. Doc really got those 6L6's sounding nice. On a side note I got my amp with one of the newly designed 2x10 cabs. Running this amp on the 2x10 with the back panel removed is a HUGE sound, both clean and dirty. It sounds so good this way that I haven't even tried the cab in closed back mode. Those 10" speakers are a match made in heaven with this amp. I'm usually a 12" speaker guy, but I've been really impressed with the Z 10's in this cab. Give it a try when you get a chance.

Whew. edoetsch: That's what it's all about bottom line, being able to listen and decide which works for you. Hope no one is as confused as I am I actually have a Rt66 clip I did almost a year ago, and moved it up to the top right below the Galaxie for easy comparison. Keep in mind the Galaxie is plugged straight in and the 66 clip has a Keeley TS9 in the chain. Both amps will deliver amazing tones each their own. www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=346841Curt, Sterling, aj, play4, Harvey, dock...thanks for listening and providing input!

Thanks jwr, glad you enjoyed the other clips as well. That section has grown, probably time to go in and delete some stuff.
Dan I figured you might lean a little towards the 66...hmmmmm ;D
To me, one of the best tones on that page is the red Maz Jr. That little 2x10 combo with a booster in front is nothing short of bada**.

How's channel 2 react when you roll your guitar volume back? Okay, here's the answer. After lots of noodling/ tweaking I've found if you run both volumes at noon, Keeley comp knobs at 11:00...as you step on the pedal to engage channel two, roll back your guitar volume to about 5. That will be equal to say 8 or 9 guitar volume on channel 1. It will be a bit dirtier, and as you roll up you'll find many shades of drive/ tone/ volume. Very SWEET! Having channel 2 volume at 9:00 is loud, problem for me being its a little fizzy/ buzzy. Having channel 2 volume at noon with your guitar volume backed down to 5 is FULL w/ no buzz...and as you roll up it becomes very aggressive w/o becoming buzzy. Make sense?...this amps sweet spot to my ears is at noon'ish. This is a great little discovery I think will make this amp work very well around a full band!

Uh Oh!
My credit card not going to stand a chance if I keep logging on to this forum.
Great stuff Bill.....Rock on.
